I don’t get it. Maybe it’s because I’m not South African, but the place just doesn’t make sense to me. I never have a particularly bad time in here, but I never drink here out of choice either.
The staff are nice and that’s cool, but the bar is bland. It tries very hard not to be, with it’s faux zebra/giraffe/leopard print stools and the bok skin on the wall, but it doesn’t really work.
I usually find myself here mid week and then it’s empty. The weekends are a different story and it’s noisy, rowdy and a generally not fun place to be. I don’t mind if I have to, but I’ll happily drink any place other than here even though there’s nothing wrong with it.

My home away from home.
As a South African, this was my first point of call in London. The Springboks were playing and I was homesick, so yes, my 5 stars may be biased, but I love this place.
There is a little SA store on the corner of the pub, where you can buy all the goodies you miss from home (at an exorbitant price), and then the pub is down the stairs on the left.
The bar itself is quite small, but it is covered in SA rands. I even saw a million rand note there - but those don’t actually exist. We aren’t Zimbabwe quite yet. There are also SA license plates nestled in amongst the notes. The rest of the walls have animal skins and other authentic ‘African’ things hanging from them.
The menu is extensively South African, and the bar stocks SA drinks like Savannah etc. It really made me feel like home - or realise how far away from home I really was.
Either way, its a great place to support your team, meet the friendliest people on earth, or just have a drink that is different to what you normally have….
