14 reviews of New Orleans Haus in English
Unfortunately we were really disappointed by this restaurant, after looking forward to coming here for a while - AND reading great reviews - mainly here on Qype.
One thing I have to say - the waiter was a sweetheart and it was refreshing to have friendly service - although not the snappiest - ESPECIALLY in Berlin!
We ordered the pecan cranberry salad which was nice enough and looked pretty. Spicy and lots of flavour. We ordered the barbequed prawns - which seemed lacking in flavour although they were heavily marinaded. I had to add a ton of salt. No sign of the famous spicy sauce - just a chili flakes mixture to sprinkle on - and thank god we had that.
The rice and beans literally tasted of NOTHING! My friend mentioned dish water - ouch! Someone here mentioned Creole food tastes 'muddy' - yup - spot on. I only ate a few mouthful, thinking I cook better food at home every night. Presentation was no better than in a canteen - no frills - a pile of rice, a pile of 'mud'.
My friend had the crawfish étouffée which again looked like canteen food (prison and hospital food was also referred to) and tasted not far off... I am so sorry - I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, especially small new companies - but this needs to be said - if this really is Creole food then you can keep it.
The restaurant itself is okay - I don't mind spartan simple style - but this is verging on boring, and the lighting in the restaurant is 'flat', and could benefit from a little more creativity (see bare bulbs in hallway).
One star for the delightful waiter and one star for the salad.
Oh, the legendary cheesecake was finished - I WILL go back to use my 1euro voucher for that cheesecake and a coffee, but that's as far as it goes.
Pricing would have been okay IF it had been tasty and presented a little more lovingly - we had an Exberliner 15euro discount voucher - which I am very, very happy about.
Sorry New Orleans House - I would have loved to have given a better review... and I hope I wasn't too mean...
love this place :D great food & service, very much new orleans. ill be back!!
Food wasn't brilliant, but maybe that's just cos I've never been to New Orleans proper, and so don't have a yardstick. The place was nice though, and the service more than attentive.
I did feel like I was expecting great things but the place didn't quite live up to the reviews on here. The rest of my group felt the food was much better on other visits though, so maybe the chef was drunk that night.
worldeater24 Traditional New Orleans food has a nutty, almost muddy flavor as compared to Asian food that has very distinct individual spices. I live in New Orleans and recently ate at the New Orleans Haus. The food at this restaurant is very authentic.

damn good cheesecake and absolutely fabulous pecan pie, which i love love love!! mmm... didn't get to try the lemon bars but maybe next time. also really loved the crawfish etouffee, the cornbread and the spinach and artichoke dip. i'm from Florida and love southern cooking, so all you foreigners that want a little bit of southern comfort food be sure to check it out!
Absolutely, positively authentic New Orleans food, drinks and desserts prepared by a New Orleans native and a true perfectionist chef who has duplicated the taste of Louisiana. Great ambience with sidewalk tables and affordable prices.
THE BEST CHEESECAKE I HAVE EVER HAD, which is saying something.
My highest recommendation!

Great food, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect.
I've tried nearly everything on the New Orleans Haus menu - and it is fabulous. The restaurant serves affordable homemade gumbo, shrimp creole, jumbalaya, and crawfish étouffée, just to name a few regular dishes. The menu changes regularly and seasonally. Right now it's pecan season, and you'll see that the pecan pie is always just about to be sold out if you come here.
The other perks that New Orleans Haus offers are its size (extra big and a nice private room on the side to host gatherings), its location (right next to Gorlitzer Park), its drink menu (a well-stocked bar complete with traditional New Orleans favourites - Hurricanes!), its free internet, and the staff (all of whom speak great English and German). It's run by a New Orelans native and you can tell by the taste and quality of the food, and the atmosphere. Blues tunes, soft lightening, and french-style doors and windows.
I highly recommend a visit to New Orleans Haus for anyone in town. It's a great place for a drink or a meal, and also a terrific place to bring your laptop and get some work done.
And if you're at a loss for what to order, always ask for a small cup of gumbo to start off. It's not on the menu, at least not in that size, so ask the owner. It's tasty, small, and you'll have to resist ordering the whole portion.
This restaurant is the real deal when it comes to southern, creole cooking. The head chef and owner, Andrew comes from New Orleans and boy does he know how to cook! We were a party of 4 so we tried many of the dishes on the menu, as well as deserts and they were all fantastic! My personal favorites were the Crawfish Étouffée, which was outstanding, the Red Beans and Rice, with delicious pieces of home made andouille sausage, and the Jambalaya. The home made cornbread is not to be missed, and the deserts are also out of this world. The Creole Cheesecake is some of the best cheesecake I have ever eaten, and I am a transplanted New Yorker! The Lemon Bars are tangy/sweet goodness, and the Dark Chocolate Brownie is literally spectacular!
The portions are really big, so you really get a great deal for the prices. Andrew has some nice beers as well as wine, and can make you an American style cocktail if you like. If you'd always wanted to try some authentic New Orleans style cuisine, but just can't swing the plane ticket you MUST check out New Orleans Huas, you won't be disappointed.
This is a young restaurant. It has been opened less than a year but the food tastes like it was cooked by a real New Orleans chef! The menu is limited so my friends and I sampled most of the items offered that night -- the result was great. Whenever I am in a new town (I travel a lot on business) I have discovered that restaurants with a "New Orleans" tag usually serve good food. The New Orleans Haus does that very well and at reasonable prices. When we were dining the owner came to chat with us - he is a very young and energetic fellow. He told us that he is from Louisiana and that this he had worked in restaurant while in college. The pecan pie was very good. Also the macaroni and cheese dish was really good. I was surprised to see that on the menu but the young owner said it is a dish that is popular in some New Orleans neighborhood restaurants. Also the location is a little out of the way, but it is across the street from a nice park and I was happy to discovered this secret. Also this place had an ample bar for drinks. I will return.
A great place in a great location on Görlitzer Park. A Young, friendly New Orleans native has opened the New Orleans Haus, and after just one month in business this place is really getting going. I sampled the food from the very first 'pre-opening' party, and in the following weeks the kitchen staff has really stepped it up to refine and finess the newly extended menu.
I can highly recommend the corn and shrimp soup. This was a daily special last time I was in and I hope they will add it to the permanent menu. Very tasty. Other highlights are the Gumbo and Jambalaya, great spinach and artichoke dip, and of course an ever changing selection of 'classic' New Orleans desserts- Pecan Pie, Lemon Bars, and Creole Cheesecake, just to name a few.
Friendly atmosphere, beautiful location with outdoor terrace, fully stocked bar, and great food. 5 Stars.
geiles creolisches restaurant direkt am Görlitzer Park, super lage... gemischtes klientel und guter service. besonders der Gumbo und die hausgemachten kuchen sind gut!! was ganz besonderes dass ich noch nicht in berlin gesehen habe.

I liked the place, simple and good food. I had the crawfish dish and it was very tasty, could have been a little more for the price (8.50) though. The other dishes were cheaper and looked very good. Check out this new restaurant at the Görlitzer Park, you won't regret it.
I live in three different countries - England, USA and Germany. I love Louisiana food and a friend of mine, who knew the owner invited me to this new place. Creole and Cajun are the popular cuisines from Louisiana. Creole foods have more tomato sauces and are more refined. Cajun foods are a more primitive. This place serves both foods very well. I went to their place on the first day and I was very impressed with it. This is not fine dining - it is just a good place to go to enjoy a casual atmosphere and eat good New Orleans food. The menu was not very expansive that that one reason for the minus "star." Also the service could have been better but I can understand that because it was their first night. I plan to return when I am in the city. The food was truly authentic - I guess because the owner is a young guy from New Orleans. I suspect this place will out grow it's location once the word gets out about how good it is. When I was in Berlin I also wen to another USA restaurant called the Bird. It was also very good. This is my first review on this website but I will be writing more reviews because it helps the foodies and the people who own eateries.
American food ? Usually we think of burgers and large colas, but this restaurant offers food from the Louisiana Cousin, which is a lovely mixture of french and latin American traditions.
I never gone to an american restaurant before other than the common burger places, I've been here for the pre-openings, where I had a Crawfish dish with rice, fresh crunchy vegetables and the locale spice mixture.
I also had the pleasure of trying the prawn dish, I mean just the fact that there is good seafood gives it a star in it self.
The location is a bit off the usual Kreuzberg party places (thats the last star missing), but it's seriously close to both U-bahn, Lido and the thriving bar night-life of kreuzberg/f*shain.
But there is no need to eat and hurry to the nearest bar, this place have a bar and can mix up any drink desired.
Even a smokers room, so they allow smokers/non-smokers to enjoy a good time together without bothering each other too much, and the smoking room is cosy and nicely decorated (not the usual kind of yellow walls with no heating)
Official opening is suppos to be on sat. 20th march 2010, looking forward to a blast there :)
