One of the best places to go out in Southampton. Next to it’s sister bar Mono and owned by the same people. The Orange Rooms has the funky edge on Mono, which is slightly more hard core/clubby. Big windows front the bar and open right up in the summer. The interior is dark wood and orange with brown leather seats and cool fish tanks and plasma screen TV’s showing extreme sports/music videos etc, but stuff that is cool to have on in the background, not stuff that distracts from conversation. They have a good selection of food (more than next door) and cocktails. But what the Orange Rooms does best, in my opinion, is live music. They have bands and DJ’s on really often and the atmosphere in there is brilliant. The best band I saw there was Fat Freddy’s Drop (Kiwi reggae/bud/funk band) in about 2003, the whole place was jumping. In fact, they’re the best live band I’ve ever seen in such a small venue. So it’s great for lunchtimes, early evening pre-club drinks, all night chilled out drinking and live music and they do the relaxed Sunday thing perfectly. Basically I had trouble getting out of the place when I lived in Southampton!
