Okawari (West End), Leicester Square, London

I adore this place, even though I flash my knickers every time I go in here. That hole in the floor style seating is not for mini skirts, let me tell you! Agadashi tofu that melts in your mouth, crisp, delicious tempura and maki to write home to mom about.

Yeah, the service could be friendlier but they are quick to refill the green tea and that's what counts. Amidst the greasy chopstick joints of Chinatown, Okawari is a beacon of sushi goodness, right across from the Prince Charles. Pre-movie eats here is a must. Be warned though, if you order a beer, it comes in a very tiny glass, like a little alcoholic amuse bouche. You'll need more than one.

Dining in the west end is often over rated. I think we get used to paying above average prices for sub par food, but at Okiwari you do get what you pay for. It isn't cheap, but not crazily expensive either and you do get very nice Japanese food. The menu is extensive and everything I've had has been delicious. The staff are friendly and accomodating. Definitely a good west end deal!

Cheap good and fresh!

Pleasantly surprising! From the outside it looks like a ordinary Japanese restaurant in Chinatown, but I assure you that it is probably one of the better ones around that area. In addition, if you’re looking for a traditional tatami dining style, you won’t be disappointed as they have two large tables at the back.

The menu was quite extensive, and prices very reasonable too for their rice and noodle dishes. Their sushi was bordering on the expensive side, but the sashimi we ordered was very fresh. Service was prompt, and staff were friendly.

Although it won’t beat Misato down the road for value, I will definitely be going back there again when I want a decent Katsu-don!!

This is my favourite Japanese restaurant in London! They have a very good menu with a wide range of sushi and sashimi, and although it isn’t cheap, it’s excellent value for money. I normally have sushi there, but the Bento boxes are very good too. The food is very fresh and tastes wonderful! I usually end up ordering a second round of sushi because I just can’t let go of the taste… The Okawari is often busy, but the waiters are always friendly, and the deco is nice too.
