Very much a mixed bag. the caves were moderately interesting and scenic although nowhere near as impressive as Wookey Hole or the various Cheddar caves. I also got the impression they were not that authentic, being blasted by dynamite, pick axe and shovel in the early excavations.
The historical information given by the guide and by the exhibition was very simplistic, seemingly pitched at children more than the largely adult group I went round in and downright wrong in places – does anyone seriously think of early man as animalistic savages any more?
Outside is a very basic woodlands trail with peculiarly awful odds and sods scattered about the trees. This appears to be quite a new development so might mature in time.
Apart from a slightly expensive, so-so cafe, that’s about it.

INTERESTING PLACE WITH LOTS OF HISTORY.IT SCARED BY LITTLE BOY WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER BUT I THINK HE WILL ENJOY IT NOW.THEY DO A GREAT TOUR AS A GROUP AND THEY EVEN DO GHOST NIGHTS BUT HAVENT BEEN BRAVE ENOUGH FOR THAT!VERY DARK AND NOT THE BEST PLACE FOR PRAMS.

I lived in Torquay for about 6 years and only visited the caves when I went back with my kids for a holiday there. Am glad I did as we all enjoyed it. Our guide was lovely, very witty and really made the experience come to life. My 5yr old daughter was a bit nervous when went down in the lift and got a bit upset but he soon coaxed her around and made her smile. They do have a few moments when te lights go out but they warn everyone of this and my daughter thought it was hilarious, and still talks about this a year later! The cafe is nice but a bit pricey, an the gift shop has an array of items should you want a souvnier of your time there.

Now,I am NOT a cave and rock person..my father dragged us out fossil hunting in all weathers as children..but I would certainly recommend a family visit to this Torquay hot spot.
The guides are enthusiastic and helpful and cater equally well with young and old guests, the caves are easily accessible and the Red Rock cafe has a fine selection of foods to keep all the family happy until their tour time.
