I love this restaurant, discovered quite by accident on a trip home to visit my parents a few years ago. I now have dinner there at least twice on each holiday to tide me over until I can return.
It is almost hidden away by its location in a strip mall and my husband refused to go in, thinking it would be awful because of its location. The interior isn’t much better, all pastel peach, pink and green with burgundy carpet.
Thankfully I persuaded my husband to stay and we enjoyed a superb meal. On our first visit we did over-order as I had forgotten how substantial North American meals can be. Once seated you are given a basket of garlic bread + pickles and olives. All mains come with a caesar or green salad, but we opted for the a la carte starters. My husband had a huge shrimp cocktail and I had the escargot.
We were fairly full up by the end of the starters so struggled through the mains, but the discomfort of over-eating on such a grand scale was worth it. I had steak neptune which was a fantastic cut of beef topped with shrimp, asparagus and bearnaise sauce. My husband had the prime rib and thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you want to have a quiet, intimate dinner go later on. Whenever we have had an early dinner we have found that the restaurant is full of families. I hate to say it, but Canadians (or at the least ones who dine at Amadeus) don’t really display a lot of consideration for diners without children, letting them run around the restaurant when they get a bit bored of sitting at the table.
