You need the pound notes in your eyes to do your food shopping here, yet there is no denying the quality of the fresh produce that you will receive from this market. Absolutey stunning coffee! The cheese also melts in your mouth where its so lovely and fresh. If you are looking for somewhere to go sit down for a cup of coffee with a friend or even alone, i definately reccommend that you give this place a try. Its definately worth the visit. Even just walking through to see what they’ve got is also worth the effort. The only thing like i said at the top of the review, the pounds and pennies are needed. Top nosh though.

Delicious but strictly for people with spare £££s, possibly with the exception of the sausage place for a tasty sandwich after a session at Tate Modern…

Absolutely love this place in the summer the fresh fruit and cakes are great used to go every friday lunchtime! if your squeemish and dont like dead animals hangin around then might not be your cuppa tea. There is a roast stall that does a mean roast bagget (this is my favourite) and also a creppe stall and a french stall that does creme caramel which is divine! would spend every lunch time there if i could just due to the variety of food and the quality!!!

Absolutely excellent market, although a little dear. You can get everything here from sichuan peppers to partridges, and there are several stalls where you can pick up delicious snacks - lovely sausage sandwiches, etc. You can get any kind of meat - the market is great at christmas and an ideal place to pick up your goose, duck, chicken, ham, or whatever your preferred christmas meat might be. There are cheeses from all across the world and strange herbs and spices - all the ingredients you might need to cook basically anything.

As others have mentioned, the Market gets very, very busy after midday at the weekend. But if you’re in the ‘market’ (groan!) for a few hours grazing the fat and not so fat of the land (and sea) this is the place for you.
Sadly though over the years it is has become a victim of its’ own success - it’s become another tick in the checkbox on the tourist ‘must do’ list. Though that doesn’t take away (sorry, the puns are getting worse) from the fact that it’s a brilliant way of whiling away a few hours and finding some wonderful foodie gems… everything from big fat Mersea oysters, hand dived scallops, organic chickens, roast meats, Greek souvlaki, Middle Eastern sweetmeats, raclette & potatoes, Portuguese custard pies, German wursts, biodynamic produce and much, much more!
Tried the markets’ Fish! takeaway today and can vouch for the fresh texture and delicious flavour of the cod in beer batter, perhaps their chips are a little on the dry side… but hey, at least they’re not dripping oil!.. yay :)

Yes Borough Market is becoming a bit of a cliche for anyone who likes to eat and is in London, but it’s still very much worth a visit.
My tip would be: get there early, because after about 10 o clock the place just gets completely rammed and that detracts from the experience a bit.
try and get there before 9 and you can speak to the stall holders, relax and have a coffee and not have to elbow your way to get anywhere near the good stuff.
Even better: go on a fiday evening around 4-5pm and the place is not only not packed but you can pick up some real bargains as everyone is packing up to go home.

Fantastic place for foodies and people looking to seek out unusual foods at a good price. There is always something going on here such as mini-country festivals, where there are cooking demonstrations, tasting sessions and much more. Brilliant place for a half-day “mooch” amongst great smelling, fresh, affordable food.

This place is brilliant! A market packed with amazing food, all of the best quality, with the smell tickling your nose and the choice making your mouth water…
It has got an incredible range of bread, cheese, olive oil and vinegar, foreign and local food and the sellers always invite you to taste before you buy.
One of my favourite saturday treats. Better go in the morning or on fridays though, as the place tends to get really packed and it gets really hard to move around due to the traffic jams at each corner when something particularly delicious is on display…

I don’t think I’ll ever grow tired of visiting this market. A great mixture of produce from different sources. My favorite bit is to try the cheeses before buying a load for dinner that day. Combined with the lovely fresh breads that are on offer, this always makes for a great evening. Did I mention the olives? Well now I have. Plenty of different things to keep everybody happy.

The must-do experience for ‘foodies’ living in, or visiting London. Great food by from independent suppliers from all over the country. Get there early before the hoardes and try a breakfast roll stuffed with sausage or bacon or egg or all of the above, or turn up with the masses at lunch-time and grab yourself an organic burger or chorizo in a bun. Of course there’s plenty for the veggie/vegan market too - the place has plentiful representation from fruit/veg/drink/muesli/cakes & pastries producers too. Go on a nice day and have a drink outside one of the riverside bars in the area or go at Christmas time and get all festive on mulled wine and winter cheer.

This is the best place in London to buy food. Everything can be found and the market operators know everything there is to know about their food. Even if you aren’t shopping it’s worth wandering around, but you’ll end up buying something. French cheese, fresh baked bread, habinero chiles… something will catch your eye/nose/fancy.

Perhaps it has become a little touristy, but it’s still a real happening and a London must visit place, Friday and Saturday. Diffucult to describe the variety of food, cheese, game, sausages, wine ,fish.. it just goes on. Plenty of better quality fast food.. venison rolls etc, and reasonably priced. Plenty of cafes and restuarants nearby.
I somtimes book a window seat in Roast on the first floor, have breakfast or an early lunch, and watch the bustle below.
Just go and see!

I would take visitors to London there (i.e. treat it as a tourist attraction), but I wouldn’t try and do my weekly shopping there.

Borough Market is a bustling market full of every food you can imagine. I went on a Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon there. It was busy and quite difficult to get round at times (I did have a buggy!!) but both my daughter and I really enjoyed looking round the stalls and trying all sorts and new and exciting food.
The have various sections to look round, an organic fruit and veg, fresh meat and poultry, Spanish/Mexican, fresh fish, cheeses etc etc. There are stalls to buy produce, lots of freebies to try and various stalls to grab something lovely to eat. There were juice bars, champagne bars, oyster bars and a brilliant selection of beers and wines to try. Around the outside of the market are small shops (Paul Smith/Neal’s Yard) and various brewery/wineries, champagne bars and pubs. There really was something for everyone there. This would be an ideal place to take visitors to London.

A London landmark and definitely worth a visit.
Other reviwers are right, this place is crammed on a Saturday, and yes it is expensive, but hey, if you are sick to death of the quality of certain supermarkets’ fruit and veg and just want to taste and maybe treat yourself to some wonderful, organic, beautifully prepared food, then who cares about the cost!
I also love the fact that it is under the rail tracks and holds some dark and grisly tales as being a scene of public punishments and slaughters in medieval times.
The cheese stalls are amazing, as are the sausage vendors.
I loved buying fruit and veg here as a treat, just tasted so good and the service was so friendly!
I also recommend finding the stand that sells juices and cordials - try a cup of their fresh apple juice and you will be in Heaven! I have found that a lot of the ready meals and take away food are overpriced, but if it’s a special meal you have to prepare for, you can find your divine ingredients here!

Borough market is a wonderful place were all your foodie dreams come true. All locally sourced and all grown organically, the food is sensational. You could spend all day getting lost in amongst the stalls of food and you will most certainly get lost within your senses with the overwhelmingly delicious smells. The stall owers know everything to know about their produce and they have a great rapport with one another - recommending food to compliment their wares and pointing you in the right direction. Never would they dream of letting you buy something without tasting it first.
It is relatively expensive and for vegetarians/vegans the food isn’t separated into sections of meat and non-meat; but if either of these things don’t matter to you and you haven’t ever been before - what are you waiting for??

If you are planning a celebratory dinner this is the place to go. Can be claustrophobically busy on Saturdays so aim to avoid the lunchtime rush and go early in the morning or later in the afternoon. This place is a foodie heaven packed with staples and treats. If you are just passing through pick up a venison burger – they are really tasty and you will find yourself going back again and again or trying them at home. Fruit and vegetables are good quality although on the steeper side however a lot of the produce is local so if you are worried about your carbon footprint you should fork out the extra. Artesian breads and cakes are heavenly and would break anyones no-carbs resolve. One of the real joys here is the cheeses, the Italians may be the hottest to look at but some of the welsh cheeses are out of this world moorish. Another big draw card here is the meat, you can get a wide variety of different types and breeds and a lot of it is organic. My favourite bit about this market must be the free samples whilst I am doing my shop I seem to consume the equivalent of a block of cheese, a loaf of bread and a brownie – not only are they good for the peckish amongst us they also mean that you try new things. After a wonder round the market grab yourself a fiercely strong expresso at Monmouth coffee shop and relax, after a few moments you will be charged enough to get home and cook up all your gourmet delights.

Borough Market is a celebration of good to great food. Of course it’s ueber-expensive and horribly crowded but hey .. IT’S LONDON, so how could one expect otherwise?
Incidentally, some other reviewer mentioned something about the selection being no better or worse than that of many supermarkets in North America. ...HMMM… as a Californian living in London I must say - there are not so many such supermarkets in my experience dotting the American urban landscape 8-)

This market is a typical London type of event/site--VASTLY over-rated. It actually has less selection, especially in organics and exotic vegetables and fruit, than many large urban supermarkets in North America. It has less variety and much poorer quality than you’ll find in a market in Italy or Spain, and the prices are nothing short of “gouge me, please!” But that’s London for you…it’s like everyone who lives here is proud to be over-charged and under-served. Speaking of The London Experience, the worst aspect of this market is how trendoid it is--which means that on weekends, the over-crowding makes shopping a torment. All things considered, you’ll usually do just as well at your local butcher and green grocer, but if you really MUST have a truffle sauce, do visit the Borough Market, early in the morning.
