Great for a hike, or to take the Cable Car to the top. Amazing views of Cape Town, a must see.
Great place to watch the sun set with a picnic basket and a glass of wine.

Have never seen anything like it (sure, there is just one Table Mountain after all). Just amazing. Really breath taking. Definitely a must go when in Cape Town. BUT do do your homework: pre book tickets online, because the queues are excruciating (there are queues for the pre booked tix as well, but incomparable) . DO take a jacket with you and long trousers. The temperature difference up there is shocking and nothing spoils the view like shaking with cold (I had to wrap a towel around my self, like skirt, humiliating, but better than freezing your bits off). If you are planning to have a snack or something up there, take it with you. The cafe gets incredibly crowded.

This is one of the "to do" things in Cape Town. You can just go up in the revolving cable car, but it is much more rewarding to walk it yourself.

Many days the top is covered with cloud, try to be flexible with your timetable - if you see the mountain is clear: go for it.

A lovely way up is from the botanical gardens, which takes you past the giant reservoirs on the top. Once you are up be very careful as it is easy to lose your way if the cloud comes down and walk off the edge (I'm not joking).

Table Mountain is one of the world’s great natural beauties. There are several ways of getting up, the easiest and most sanitised being to go by cable car. However, there are usually huge queues in summer and you are probably better off getting some exercise and taking the couple of hours to walk it. The flora and fauna are incredibly diverse and you get a sense of the two worlds of nature and civilisation clashing in this unusual city. Avoid in winter as it is usually covered by a ‘table-cloth’ of cloud.

This is another wonder of nature. The name says it all. It is a mountain that looks like a table as it is very flat on top. The layer of clouds that float over the top of it give it the table cloth look.

It is a landmark in Cape Town.

When you get to the top, via cable car…. you can see Cape Town. Although you may be lucky of you have a clear day as the clouds are very low at this point blocking the view.

One of the top Cape Town tourist spots.

You can get a taxi up there quite cheaply.

If you ever come to Cape Town you must go and visit Table Mountain. My suggestion is to go up the cable car about an hour before sunset. Take a picnic & a bottle of 2 of bubbly & enjoy the stunning sunsets. Also the City Bowl looks stunning coming back down after sunset.

Bitterly dissapointing!! I went to table mountain after a month of travelling around this beautiful country, and couldnt help but feel let down by all the hype i’d heard.
I felt it was ruined by all the manmade structure erected on the top of it. A wonderful talked about landmark- i was appalled by the amount of concrete and barriers, signs, litter etc…
It is, however, a must for all tourists, as its such a popular landmark.
Although the views are spectacular and the little strange animals were weird yet cute, table mountain is a place i wouldnt rush back to.
South Africa however is filled with unspoilt magestic landscapes completely untouched by builders, so dont let table mountain put you off!!

    By no means, ct1981!
Maybe you mixed this mountain with Zugspitze (yes, too much concrete), Matterhorn (too much litter), or the absence of oxygen confused your mind.
I have seen many tourist-attractions all over RAS, NAM and BOT in the last years. And much more locations around the world. And especially beeing a climber: I know many mountains and peaks.
Table Mountain is one of the cleanest, best prepared and carefully developped points on the world.
    Sorry to correct that.

Don´t compare that with Drakensberg region or remote areas in Bot, Lesotho or somewhere else.
Try to count platic-bags within Windhoek, Jo´burg or Pretoria.
Even in Kruger, Okavango or Etosha you can find thousands of them - i´ve seen none on Table Mountain.

    Traffic & infra-structure:
Best practise - i never went so fast with a cable car in europe.
Toilets without water, all liter & rubbish will be moved down to Cape Town…
