The Chicago Theatre is a beautifully restored old theatre that hosts an eclectic range of concerts and other events. I think it’s always a bonus to be surrounded by a gorgeous building at any concert! The theatre is centrally located on State Street in the heart of downtown, which is also a plus. Tip: they offer tours ($10) of the theatre, usually including backstage, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at noon.

Great venue for live music! You’re not going to see someone like Neil Young in a tiny venue these days (unless you know him… or happen on him by chance, see my review of Toast Bar, Hamburg), so, this is as good as it gets. It’s big, but not too big. Absolutely stunning sound quality, you could hear every slide and finger pick, and it felt quite intimate despite the size. Handily situated right in the centre of the action, I’d definitely come back. Tickets weren’t that cheap… but hey - he’s a legend!
