The Museum of Science and Industry was my favorite museum when I was growing up, and it remains so. I think the best part is the wide range of exhibits, from WWII German sub to 727 airplane to model trains, etc. etc. One of my favorite exhibits is the Colleen Moore Fairy Castle, which is the most gorgeous dollhouse. (Well, dollhouse is probably too banal a term!) Colleen Moore was a silent film star who had this fairy castle made as a representation of a fairy’s dream home. It is stunning…don’t miss it!

Had an excellent day out here, mainly because of the U-505 exhibit, which was what I went to see of course! The only German U-boat to be captured in the war, the US Navy towed her across the Atlantic and managed to keep from sinking. She now lies in a purpose built hall with the various ‘finds’ such as an enigma machine etc etc around too. It’s fascinating stuff, and made me realise that I definitely wouldn’t want to work on a sub!
Other highlights include a whole 727 and a coal mine!
When I went, I pre-booked tickets online only to find it was free to get in that day. Slightly frustrating, but nice for everyone else. Highly recommended, but don’t try and walk here from town… it’s miles!
