Agecroft Cemetery

Agecroft Cemetery is a good place for a quiet stroll and to browse graves of various ages. I’m interested in finding out more about the history of the graves and how they are laid out.

Agecroft Cemetery in Swinton was opened in 1903 - already more than a hundred years ago. I have some personal memories attached to it, and the most important thing that comes to mind is the peacefulness of the place. This may not be the most special trait of the cemetery, as people are obviously taken here to rest in peace, but in the case with Agecroft peace makes the character of the place. It is good to visit in any time of the year, and a visitor will find a lovely children's garden, a few nice shelters, and an abandoned edifice. Crematorium was opened in 1957, and since then there have been ashes graves in a special place in graveyard. There is a small chapel for ceremonies; it houses the Book of Remembrance. Within Agecroft there is a space for Muslim graves; and on the opposite side of the road is a Jewish cemetery.
