Dark, dingy, old and full of character. The perfect recipe for the best gigs in the world!
Been in Glasgow since as long as I can remember. Great venue & down to earth people
I have only praise for the barrowlands, it may be an old venue but that just adds to the magic of seeing your favourite bands there. I have seen two concerts here 'the saw doctors’ and 'Jimmy Eat World’ and the lighting is as awesome as the sound. The atmosphere is also amongst the best everyone is friendly to each other. You may get beer logged in your direction but isnt that all part of the fun?? There is also many bars surrounding the 'barra’s’ if you wanna have a wee drink before hand!!
What can I say…one of the best places to go to a gig! I’ve never had a bad experience there, everyone is so friendly and it’s not too big so you can get pretty close to the bands and there’s plenty of good chat to be had! I’d definitely recommend it.
The Barra’s is an old fashioned ballroom and when you first enter and the place is quite empty you may think, what a dump, the smell of fried onions reaches your nostrils and the aircraft hanger roof starts to give you a sence of the fairground, but from when the performers strike the first note till the end of their set the whole place starts to bounce. It seems to attract a freindly crowd and when you leave you tend to be drenched, (whether from sweaty dancing or the beer launchers) we always look forward to a gig here…
doesnt look much from the outside, but “the barras” is the place to gig! bands, old and new, major and unkown, clamber to play here, and its apparent why when you go to the gigs. the atmospher is amazing! very rarely do you get trouble in the place. plus is easy distance from the city center for the nightlife after wards or for food n drinks before hand. top class. also a glasgow landmark! must see.
This has got to be one of the best and oldest venues in Glasgow. It’s location is great for public transport, food or drinks before the gig and holds a whole lot of people. This has got to be one of my best nights out and I can’t wait to go back to my next night there in September. The staff are amazing and the price of drink was good too.
As far as i’m concerened, this is the best place in Glasgow for gigs, the sound is so much better than the Carling or the secc, any gig i’ve been to there the atmosphere has always been electric
All the popular bands do play here, and it is a dream for Scottish bands “to play at the barras”. Probably best for more rock/indie bands. I went to an electro gig here, and probably not the best acoustics for 'techno beats’.
Be warned, it does get very warm and sweaty. But doesn’t every gig venue?
this is a very old venue in the east end of glasgow i have seen many bands over the years it is a very pleasant place to see bands and have a good night out with friends
Barrowlands has an attractive outside with bright flashing lights saying ’ barrowlands’ I have seen many bands perform here , not a bad venue. I feels like a good size , not to small or not to big. This is for standing concerts, Artists such as All American Rejects , Good Charlotte to name a few bands that go there.
Your bags get checked at this one , so hide your camera !
This is a really good live music venue. It’s spacious with plenty of seating off to the sides. It is in desperate need of a refurb and it’s certainly not the cleanest venue I’ve seen. For a southerner like myself the metal detectors came as a bit of a shock and when I was informed that it was also in a pretty bad part of the city I was a little concerned that I was having to make my own way back to the hotel that night. I encountered no problems and I’m sure it was just the locals having a laugh at my expense. I would most definitely make the trip to Glasgow again to see band here.
Definitely the best place to go to a gig in Glasgow. All the acts seem to rate it too so why do they go for the crappier Carling Academy.
Only been to see a few bands at this venue, but would recommend to anyone. Great atmosphere, really intimate. Can’t think of a much better place to watch live music
The Barrowlands is a Scottish institution, from beginnings as a ballroom, to its current place at the forefront of the live music scene I am always glad to see a good gig here!
Everyone must go at least once!

This place has quite a high excitment rating and I have enjoyed gigs in here too. I feel it has a more character then the other places and again access is good.
a great venue, the best of its size in glasgow. i have been to more gigs in here than i can remember, i was there about once a week in my teenage years. good times.
this was thought to be the best gig in scotland once the glasgow apollo closed its doors - i saw deff leppard, robert cray and the cramps here. the place is electric. there are no seats, it is smelly, it is dirty and just fantastic. the stage is low to the ground (great for us weegies used to the apollo) and you are really up close to the bands. a top top venue
For live music this is the best venue in Glasgow, no make that Scotland.
Atmosphere is brilliant, you can get so close to the band and the acoustics are awesome.
Decent beer prrices too!
