This was a really nice evening (group of 8) made nicer by the attentiveness of the Matre d’ (although sadly not by the rest of the staff) and the lovely food.
Service was quite slow, with around 10 minutes waiting time between ordering and receiving drinks, and a total of two courses lasting 150 minutes… Saying that, it was worth it as the food was splendid. The Monkfish didn’t taste fishy at all (is that a good thing? Yes for me!) and was excellent, chargrilled chicken starters were lovely and the Dum Pukht (standard curry with an Indian-bread lid) was great, but probably not worth the extra £4.
Definitely recommended if you’re trying to impress, but there are other, better Indian restaurants that come in much cheaper.
Price for a starter, main and two drinks was around £30 a head.
Looks great but quite cold inside. Decor is nice but i dont think the heaters are working. Service was good but the food wasn’t up to standard. Ordered a Thali but overall i didn’t enjoy the cuisine.
Totally unexpected menu but is apparently the real authentic indian food. Good deals on 5pm.co.uk. We had a lamb dish for 2 people which was well worth the money and totally delish. Staff were great, really friendly and patient while I tried to pronounce the dishes.
This is a unique dining experience. My brother and sister in law took me here and it was fantastic to say the least. I had never heard of most of the dishes, this is authentic food you get here. Don’t go looking for a chicken tikka, it isn’t on the menu. It is out of the way, upstairs so you might miss it. It is expensive but it is definately worth trying, I would go again.
I ate in this restaurant last Saturday - the food is simply outstanding. I had the tandoori monkfish and it was sublime. As a previous comment mentioned - don’t come here for the usual Indian fayre you want get it. The chicken is the nicest I’ve tasted in an Indian establishment and the rices and bread are unique.
Is worth saying though that you pay for the pleasure of the great food.
I really enjoy their different style to Indian food. Some dishes are great, others didn’t live up to there reputation.
very good, professional service. Costly dinning experience but enjoyable.
I would say you have to try this place at least once, great for a special occasion.
Great food and servers who understand their menu!
As some of the other reviews have said, if your wanting a tikka, masala, korma etc etc then avoid this place, but if you want to try some authentic indian and try something new… this is the place you want to be!
Like shopaholic I had the monkfish and it was gorgeous!
The Dhabba is different from your standard Indian restaurant. Don’t go expecting to find the usual takeaway suspects on the menu. This is far from a bad thing. They specialise in authentic North Indian dishes that are bursting with flavour.
Don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation from your server, the staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to the menu and will be able to offer something to your taste.
A great restaurant if your looking to take your Indian dining up a notch. Not ideal if your just looking to satisfy your tikka masala cravings.
I have heard amazing things about Dhabba but was rather underwhelmed on my only trip there. The food was good, but it was also expensive, so on a bang-per-buck scale it just didn’t live up to expectation.
The lamb was only okay flavour-wise and was average on texture. The king prawns were again okay but didn’t have the required bite to hold against what was a rather mild sauce. The spiciness of the dishes was not particularly hot, though other tables asked for extra chillies in their dishes so it seems the restaurant is catering for the middle ground and allows for some adjustment for taste, which is a good sign.
The service was very good. The clientele mostly groups of business men & women.
Overall, the meal was a 7/10 on quality, but at £20 a head before drinks it should be better.
Wonderful Indian restaurant specialising in North Indian cuisine; had the best monkfish ever and delicious king prawn dish. Spicy is really spicy so beware.
Neutral but stylish contemporary decor and good service.
