I had the mexican burger, the guacamole was as big as the burger!! Other than that, really tender meat, bun was soft and they weren’t stingy on the fillings!!! Really delicious.
The service was great, chatty staff who all looked happy to be there!!
Nice burger place! I had a cheese burger and shared chips. The presentation is not really pretty but size of burger is massive for me! The quality of meat is huge but the portion of salad leaf is so tiny. The burger is ok-price but side dish is rather expensive. My stomach is a bit too much after i had it. I want to have a bit well-balanced plate.
Spinningfirlds is nice area, very quiet though it is still in town. However the restaurants there is not really unique. Most of them are high-street one and I do not think it that attractive…
If you like fast food but find McDonalds hard to stomach there is a far superior “burger bar” in town. Gourmet Burger offer HUGE burgers with a range of tempting toppings. The avocado & bacon is my personal favourite or the blue cheese which melts in the mouth. If beef isn’t to your taste there is chicken, lamb, vegetarian or a range of salads. They also do a kids sized selection.
Although a little more expensive than the high street fast food outlets you can enjoy your meal in the surroundings of Spinningfields which on a sunny day is perfect to visit, especially if you can bag a table outdoors on the river side. They also do take away. The price is reflected in the food, it is fresh and good quality.
My only issue is that I find the burgers a little too over facing. I rarely finish one but you can add the toppings to a junior sized burger so I find this better than paying for a normal sized burger and having to leave half. I top up with their coleslaw which is to die for.
Ive always found you can tell a good restaurant by the faces of the people coming out – and whenever I have visited the Gormet Burger Kitchen I have always been greeted by smiling faces coming the other way
You may not think gormet when you think burger, but the food here puts you straight. There are a variety of burgers which may seem a bit overpriced compared to Burger King or Mcdonalds, but when you consider they are made fresh, even the buns, then you realise you’ve got your moneys worth.
I strongly recommend trying some of their sauces with your chips, the sour cream is divine. Service is also very good, although you order at the till yourself people are always round to check everything is ok for you.
All in all a great place for an decent bit of grub!
I visited the GBK, quite by accident - after stumbling across it. If you aren’t that familiar with the city then it can be quite hard to find this place! However, when you do it’s well worth it!
I ate here at lunchtime, and had a plain burger while my partner had something much more exotic. Both were delicious and very filling! We couldn’t even manage a pudding! They were reasonably priced. We also shared a portion of their fries, which were very tasty and more than enough for two to share.
The restaurant itself is in a lovely setting - next to the river - and is very light and airy. The staff were friendly and polite. We were fortunate hat we didn’t have to wait for a table, but there is a small seated area if you need to wait.
Great satifying burgers love the falafel burger, enough for two to share! also 241 offers avail!
Some delicious and interesting burgers to be found on the menu here - though it is worth mentioning that if you’re not into burgers you won’t find much else to choose from!
Lately they have taken to offering some rather unique burger varieties such as buffalo and wild boar - I tried the buffalo which although unusual was particularly tasty.
There’s a good selection of beer on offer, and best of all some fantastic and satisfyingly huge milkshakes.
It’s a very neat, tidy and modern establishment, though points are lost for having a slightly clinical feel to the place - there’s not much of an atmosphere.
The food and drink is good value - expect to pay around £7 for a burger.
Gourmet Burger Kitchen has a river-side unit down in the shiny, new Spinningfields area of Manchester. I visited on a sunny evening in June, and was able to bag a table outside. I was torn between the satay beefburger and the Jamaican one. I chose the satay burger and was really pleased with it.
These burgers are big. The patty itself is about an inch thick; add two halves of a bun, some salad, the other components of your particular choice of burger, and you can understand why they hold the thing together with a stake through the middle.
I ordered a side of fries, and unlike the previous reviewer, found the portion to be more than enough. I also had some of their “homeslaw”, which is their home-made coleslaw. This was really tasty and went well with the rest of the meal.
Their selection of bottled beers was good, offering some fairly unique brands of beer from New Zealand.
Spinningfields is still a brand new part of Manchester, which does mean the whole area has a slightly ghost-town feel to it. I don’t think there are any independent businesses there, which many will feel lets the place down. However, chains are familiar, giving customers what they expect, and you can’t blame them for that. Hopefully over the next year or so Spinningfields will have a little more life to it, and the restaurants there will flourish and take on their own identities.
Situated within Spinningfields - ‘Manchester’s version of Canary Wharf’ (although we will need that Sir Norman Foster skyscraper to really merit that statement) – GBK is a smart burger bar, as far removed from Burger King/McDonalds as George Bush is from a clear conscience. You do pay a fair bit for these burgers, although at an average of 6.5” high (I made that up but they’re pretty tall) they certainly don’t skimp on anything (aside from the barren bowl of chips…I hope they’re more on the case with this). They are pretty tasty too. I chowed down on a 100% Aberdeen-Angus Scotch beef, with aged Stilton dressing, salad & relish, whilst my companion chose the Thai beef (with red curry sauce).
This is a New Zealand company and they appear to be everywhere in London, with quite a few branches in the de facto 2nd City. Unlike the previously mentioned burger joints, GBK sells beer and wine. The inside of my neck end genuinely appreciated a wash down with Mac’s Gold (native of NZ), so points were scored for interest here.
It’s all good (service, décor etc.) but I can’t help the feeling of deja vu in our cities these days. Spinningfields is shaping up really nicely, it’s sleek, modern (albeit slightly clinical), futuristic and shows promise of genuine breathtaking architecture (Denton Corker Marshall’s huge CJC building for one). I just wish we could’ve seen more independents in this part of the city. Whether Sam’s/Mr Thomas’s Chop House opens up here we’ll have to wait and see, other wise the likes of GBK, Giraffe, Carluccio’s et al will make this place just a little duller.
