First Review so here goes.
Received excellent service from this company. Had to cancel them three times, two of which were on their due installation date, due to incompetence from gomagpie.co.uk (the real reason for joining Qype was to leave them a horrible review but alas they're not on here) and they accepted this without complaint or query.
Having been let down for a fourth time I requested if they could supply a similar type of low energy radiator to that which I'd been continually promised which they dutifully confirmed they could and came with the new fitting within two days of this request and offered fine workmanship including a step by step guide to operating procedures which despite taking a while for a dimwit such as I to grasp was given with perpetual calm and patience.
Whilst the labour cost was somewhat cheaper (considerably so, by £60 from the next comparative quote), I can only praise the workmanship and efficiency of Backlee Electrical.
Many thanks to Kevin for providing such a delightful service.

5/5 Job completed in 4 days, very tidy workmanship. Delighted with overall result.
£540 cheaper than my cheapest other quote, all testing certification left in my possession.

AUGUST UPDATE
Despite his online promise (below) to refund my £25.00 it has never arrived. I emailed him my address again and he replied that he had received it and would send the money. I have no experience of his electrical abilities but he is very clearly dishonest and untrustworthy. Why would you let him into your house if this is how he behaves?
DO NOT USE HIM. HE IS A CROOK. PLEASE READ ON. Kevin McCabe, seems to be the owner of Backlee Electrical, which is also listed as PAT TESTING EDINBURGH and has a separate website under that title. Spot the telephone number differing by one digit. I phoned him and he agreed to PAT test my ‘buy to let’ flat the very next day. So I stupidly sent him a cheque, thinking it would arrive after he had done the work, but before he had to give me the certificate. He never did the work, cashed the cheque and doesn’t answer the phone unless you trick him by using an unrecognised number. On the one occasion he took my call he agreed to send me cash by registered post. He doesn’t reply to emails. I callled two of the companies he lists as clients. They have stopped using him because he was ‘unreliable’. Didn’t turn up. As far as I am concerned he is a thief. Don’t use him. I have reported him to Trading Standards and the Police.

grahamkc, 26 May 2012:Had Kevin McCabe refunded my £25.00 as promised, I would not have gone to the trouble of writing any review, far less the one I wrote. The money did not arrive. Maybe it got lost in the post, in which case if he sends it again, I will be happy to amend my review accordingly. But I think it is far more likely that he didn’t really post it at all, and that he has lied to you too. After all, what can I do about it? I phoned the police who told me it was a civil matter and they could do nothing. I have copied the response from Trading Standards below. I didn’t pursue it further. It wasn’t worth the hassle. So it looks like Kevin just gets to keep my £25.00 I guess, but I stand by every word of my review. Thank you for your concern Jonty, but I’m not sure how getting out more would change my views on being robbed!

I will further investigate this trader with regards to the legislation in which we enforce however it may be useful for you to contact Consumer Direct to get some advice into trying to get your money back from the Trader. Unfortunately Edinburgh Trading Standards no longer get involved with individual civil complaints.
More detailed information on consumer rights/ template letters is available on the Consumer Direct website. If you have not already done so, you may find it helpful to discuss how to proceed with your complaint with a Consumer Direct adviser, telephone number 08454 040506.
It may also be worth speaking to your bank with regards the cheque which was sent to the trader.

I did send a refund to the address you provided… I believe this was around the middle of February and kept the recorded delivery slip for a good month or so afterwards.
The PAT testing website was removed around the same time therefore I havn’t received any correspondence from the enquires@ email address for some considerable time.
The refund hasn’t been returned via the post office so I’m only presuming either it’s still in their sorting office and been put towards tea and biscuits or it has been delivered elsewhere with the beneficiaries being persons unknown.
If you forward your address once more to backleeelectrical@gmail.com then I’ll send once again.
With reference to your review we both know I made contact with your tenant on several occasions and only after she agreed to call back to arrange a suitable date did I cash your cheque which I’d had in my possession for nearly two weeks. If I were really a crook I’d have cashed it upon receipt.
I’ve never heard from Trading Standards either by phone nor letter. If I had they’d have been given the recorded delivery number which I’d still have had given the date of your review.

i've used kev for years when after a hand. always turns up even at short notice.nice guy never had a problem. very good electrician who knows his stuff. the first gadgie i turn to when tryin to sort a problem.

You are obviously a friend of Kevin’s, and, from your logo/photo, a fellow electrician, so your review has to be read with that in mind. He may well be a good electrician, and a good pal of yours, but he nicked my £25.00!

AUGUST UPDATE: As you can see below my original review, Kevin very nicely promised to post me the money if I sent him my address again. This would be in an attempt to dilute any negative effects of my bad review. I sent my address but unsurprisingly he didn’t send the money. I contacted him again a while back and he fed me a line about a family problem and promised yet again to send the money – registered post. Guess what?? He didn’t. The guy is just a common or garden thief.

I only found the review above after I'd used this company's services. I can't talk highly enough of them. They called out half an hour after I called, done the job and only took £30. Came across as a really nice guy so have to admit I'm surprised at the comments above. I'd happily use them again.
