If you’re in Nottingham, a trip to 'Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem’ really is a must.
Proclaimed to the oldest pub in Britain, and dating back to 1189AD, it is set into the rock below Nottingham Castle which makes it ideal for day trippers who wish to get as many things as possible into one day. There’s even the opportunity to purchase souvenirs within the pub to commemorate the experience.
The cost of food and drink is reasonable considering the history of the place and the popularity amongst tourists, although it has to be said that the food is unlikely to win any awards.

No trip to Nottingham would be complete without a vist to Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem, the pub has a fantastic atmosphere whenever you go in. Food is well priced for a city centre pub and very delicious! Within a 5minute walk to Nottingham Castle of the city centre.

An outdoor pub just beside Nottingham castle, it claims to be the oldest pub in England and that it’s haunted! I really enjoyed my visit there, it was exciting crawling through the rocky cave. At the till you can see money from all around the world stuck onto the walls and if you don’t see your own country you can contribute something to them. Food I had was good, tourist priced but still reasonable. Definitely a place to be visited by tourist.

This is a very nice and cozy place. We sat outside in the sun with our drinks.
Highly recommended if only for its atmosphere

Definitely a recommendation for tourists as well as being very popular with the locals, 'The Trip’ is a lovely and quirky pub, great for tasty and reasonably-priced lunchs or just drinks, both inside and outside. A genuinely unique place.

The oldest pub in England, a gem for tourists and a regular haunt for many local. Food and drink are cheap. Don’t touch the ship behing the glass or you will die.
Rooms are quite small, which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you want. The toilets are outside, so prepare for quick dashes during winter

A definite must-do in Nottingham! And the sooner the better because you’ll keep coming back. Endlessly atmospheric, the cavernous, cozy maze of a pub is carved into the cliff upon which Nottingham Castle stands. Claims to be the oldest pub in England. Definitely as old as the crusades though - hence the name.

If you are bringing someone new to the city, into nottingham of an eve or day, you must bring them here, for some real ol charm. The stories about its age are available and the bar staff will happily tell you as much as they know. Time permitting. Tourists head here.

On the outside of the pub it says it is The Oldest Inn in England. It has a good atmosphere and a lot of history and stories behind it. It is right by Nottingham Castle, built into the rock. The food and drinks are good. They have some nice ales.

This pub is full of history and is set in a really quirky building. I didn’t get to try food here, but the drinks were quite reasonable and they also stock Nobby’s nuts, which started off my craving for them. It has lots of different rooms to explore, each with their own story and authentic feel. I will definitely try to come here again.

If you like them traditional i.e. REALLY old, then you can’t do much better than this place.
You see, Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem is so called because legend states that Crusaders, before commencing on their brave (but ultimately, doomed) efforts to claim back the “Holy Land” from the Saracens, topped up on that old Dutch courage - like pious camels - in here firstly (priorities and all that etc).
Not sure what prices were back then - perhaps a sack of wheatsheafs or potatoes, but in any event, you can now make out like Richie the Lion Heart and get pissed in here before dealing with infidels.
I must say, you can get comfy in here, so you may find you’ll struggle to find the legs to get to Nottingham Castle, let alone venture as far as the Middle East.
It’s all about preserving tradition in here - it is a living museum after all - so don’t expect cocktails and pina coladas and Mexican waiters.
Food is average, but the place is so small you probably won’t be staying in that long anyway.

Beautiful location right under Nottingham Castle and its olde world style so if you want a traditional pub this place is the place to go in nottingham.

The Olde Trip to Jerusalem is apparently the oldest pub in Britain.
Its set into a rock face and there are loads of caves beneath the pub. There’s also a well cut out of the floor so you can look straight down in to the caverns under the pub.
Its very popular with tourists but its a large pub with lots of different rooms so it didn’t feel too packed.
I would recommend this unique pub to any visitors to Nottingham.

Not been to this pub for quite a while but have been a few times in the past! Really like the atmosphere… definitely worth a visit if you are on a short break or holidays. It’s found very near to Nottingham castle.
When I have been to Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem there has been a man come into the pub selling little pots of seafood (cockles, prawns etc). Not sure if this still happens but I thought it was quite unique.
This place has lots and lots of character!

The pub sign says 1189ad and it claims to be the oldest pub in Britain. Legend says that the Crusaders stopped off at the Inn at the foot of the Castle for refreshments on their way to the Holy Land.
It is partly cut out of the rock under the castle and has caves for cellers. The flagstone floors are uneven and it is tiny and twisty with little bars and an upstairs cave area with a wonderful wooden bar. Also a museum. The rock lounge and snug are said to be haunted.
Good food although they sell out of the veggie alternative early.
Bikers seem to go there in good weather and lounge outside on the grass with their bikes and pints. There are also a few seats and tables outside.
They have medieval food nights and story telling nights but never managed to get to one, The food at the special nights is cheapish..around £8. They also have beer festivals. You can even buy a crusader cross tea shirt and books.
Well worth a visit if only to look at this amazingly curious place.
