The Olde Trip to Jerusalem is apparently the oldest pub in Britain.
Its set into a rock face and there are loads of caves beneath the pub. There’s also a well cut out of the floor so you can look straight down in to the caverns under the pub.
Its very popular with tourists but its a large pub with lots of different rooms so it didn’t feel too packed.
I would recommend this unique pub to any visitors to Nottingham.

Not been to this pub for quite a while but have been a few times in the past! Really like the atmosphere… definitely worth a visit if you are on a short break or holidays. It’s found very near to Nottingham castle.
When I have been to Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem there has been a man come into the pub selling little pots of seafood (cockles, prawns etc). Not sure if this still happens but I thought it was quite unique.
This place has lots and lots of character!

The pub sign says 1189ad and it claims to be the oldest pub in Britain. Legend says that the Crusaders stopped off at the Inn at the foot of the Castle for refreshments on their way to the Holy Land.
It is partly cut out of the rock under the castle and has caves for cellers. The flagstone floors are uneven and it is tiny and twisty with little bars and an upstairs cave area with a wonderful wooden bar. Also a museum. The rock lounge and snug are said to be haunted.
Good food although they sell out of the veggie alternative early.
Bikers seem to go there in good weather and lounge outside on the grass with their bikes and pints. There are also a few seats and tables outside.
They have medieval food nights and story telling nights but never managed to get to one, The food at the special nights is cheapish..around £8. They also have beer festivals. You can even buy a crusader cross tea shirt and books.
Well worth a visit if only to look at this amazingly curious place.
