Recently had the pleasure of staying at The Grainary and found it very a relaxing getaway and will definitely be back.
Upon arrival we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff who helped us to our room and made sure we were settled. The room itself had everything we needed to feel right at home!
The surroundings were picturesque and really allowed you to relax and unwind!
I honestly couldn’t find fault with anything here! Brilliant location, brilliant price, brilliant service and think i have found a place to come back every time i am in the area.
Stayed here for a weekend. Such a nice place with lovely people. Highly recommend.
Its a really nice place to go to for some time out the atmosphere the views is really good .
We’ve just this minute returned home from a two day stay at the Grainary and as usual, we were reluctant to return home. You receive real comfy, home from home accomodation with great food to boot. Nothing’s too much for Lynda,John or the staff, and the surronding countryside is lovely. We have been visiting the Grainary now for over 13 years and will keep going back. We know a good thing when we see one! Hope to see you all soon.

This is without a doubt the best place to stay when in Scarborough. The scenery around this place is beautiful. The staff are exceptional, they cannot do enough for you and will cater for all your needs and wants.
Unquestionable though that the best factor at this B&B is the food, fresh healthy and organic, cooked to perfection!!!

Fantastic place to stay, lovely surroundings of the pond etc very picturesque. The rooms are beautifully clean and tidy and are a fantastic size.
Every time I come to scarborough this is the place I stay. The food is fantastic and i will always continue to recommend this place to friends and family.
If you are looking for a place to stay whether it be couples/family in Scarborough then this is your destination
The staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you thanks for everything and I will definitely be back soon
100% sure this is 5 stars !
We stayed in the family room with our two granddaughters aged 5 and 15 for only one night but wished we were staying longer. We all fell in love with the place and with Bessie the sheepdog! The welcome was warm and friendly, the room was spotless and the beds were soooooo comfy. The breakfast was excellent with super service. After breakfast we wandered around the pond taking pics of the geese and then we walked down to the bottom lake with Bessie in the lead and I took masses of photos. The scenery was stunning, we didn’t want to leave. We will definitely be back!
Great location, very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable large rooms. But I have to disagree with the positive reviews on the food. It tasted and looked to us like British food from the 1970s: bland flavors, over-cooked vegetables, heavy sauces. All condiments in tiny fast-food takeout packets.
It was very telling that only a third of the hotel guests actually stayed there for dinner. Ripe for a menu update and a little kitchen creativity.
Also: it seemed weird to us that their food does not seem to come from their farm or local surrounding farm. Why not locally sourced meat, cheese and veg?
... Thanks for the feedback.
To answer your question, we pride our selves on our food. We believe in home cooked traditional recipes. Of course it is not for everyone, and are looking at updating it.
We would love to hear some suggestions on what you would do to the menu.
To answer your further enquiry, our meat and veg come from local sources. You would of past Phil Trains farm on the way where he stocks fresh vegetables. And our meat comes from a farm on the Whitby Road.
Granted we can’t by every ingredient local….we have to try and make some profit =D

Just returned from a weekend at the Grainary and got to say it is the loveliest place I have ever stayed at. The scenery is amazing, room spotless and the food is wonderful. My daughter loved the animals and we loved playing with Bessie the dog and her ball, wish we’d still been there. Nothing was too much trouble either. Thank you for the most wonderful weekend we have had, we will be back without doubt!
An absolute joy to have spent a few hours here at the Grainary. We will definitely be going back and staying a few nights at the hotel. Thank you!

This is a friendly farm with family appeal. We had a great time with the kids. The animals are all well cared for and the farm is run on ecologically sound priniciples. Unusually they have made walks around their land suitable for pushcahirs/wheelchairs. The indoor games room is absolutely great as the British weather can always interrupt a day. My son Matty loves the huge trampoline and a wet day doesn't mean boredom at the Grainary. The plant sales are fantastic value. The food is good, but we found the hot beef sandwich a little disappointing. We were expecting gravy but it was served with salad which seemed strange, plus the crisps that were added were soggy.
... Thanks for taking the time out to write the review.
Apologises over the Hot Beef Sandwich. Yesterday with the Farms open day we had a massive increase in orders, and although we do strive to make 100% of our meals perfect, the occasional one does slip our grasp =D
Next time you come, notify that you spoke to Mark and you will get a free cup of tea for letting us know.
Look forward to your booking to stay with us and glad the kids had fun.
See you soon

We have today returned from a fabulous four-night break at The Grainary, and what a find! It's situation between Scarborough and Whitby is ideal for visiting the area and the views from the farm are just stunning.
John, Linda and their family have made their home your home for as long as you stay, and nothing is too much trouble. They are such friendly and welcoming hosts. The rooms are clean, comfortable and homely, with every amenity and the breakfasts and dinners are second to none.
We cannot recommend The Grainary high enough, and look forward to visiting again very soon.

My wife and I have just arrived home after a relaxing 3 night stay at the Grainary and to say that it is a home from home establishment would not be doing it any justice. You have to sample the hospitality & comfort that Linda & John have to offer and you would agree that nothing is too much and the meals are great, you leave your table knowing that you have just sampled some of the best country fayre that is available. We have been visiting The Grainary now for over 12 years and each time we visit it seems to be better than the last visit, if thats possible! Here's to the next time.

We have just has a night at The Grainery and it was great!! I hadn't mentioned my wife needed a ground floor room, and a first floor room had been allocated, but the kind staff immediately changed rooms without question. The room was excellent, the food even better and the service A1 !!.
The situation of the farm has spectacular views and the baby animals a real bonus!!
We will certainly recommend it to all our friends.
Many Thanks!!

We have just returned from a one nights stay with our 5 year old son. We had a fantastic time - Hotel was spotless/very homely - open fires and very welcoming - John and Lynda were fanastic hosts. We spent lots of time out on the farm / grounds exploring and meeting Lolly the puppy and Blue the sheepdog - Joseph our son had a whale of a time. Open fires / good hearty food/lovely breakfasts and comfortable rooms - all made it a great place to stay. Joseph got to know Mark (farmer) and had such a giggle and the highlight of his stay was helping John bottle feed the new born lambs - amazing! Thank you so much. We would highly recommend this place to anyone....it was a great memorable short break and one which we would like to think will be repeated in the future. Thank you x Yvonne Vin and Joseph Shanley
... Thanks for your kind words.
We hope to see you again soon

Went to the Grainary for a weekend break a few years ago and we can't get back often enough. Th place is just lovely it seems to have its own special 'peace'. I can feel my self start to unwind when we enter the dale! The welcome we get every time is like nowhere else, warm friendly and genuine! The whole family make you feel at home with their warmth and humour. The food is lovely, Lynda's breakfasts are the perfect start to the day and then the whole moors coast or forests to explore! Wish I was going tomorrow! Try it once and you'll be hooked like we are!
Panyan Well Mark we had 4 Blissful days at the Grainary last week (end of March) and as ever didn't want to come home! I cant get over the welcome we always get, even the dogs are pleased to see us! The food was the usual high standard, the lambs were just starting to arrive and the daffies and primroses were stunning. Cant wait to get back. Although you know it creates a bit of a dilemma for me because I want other people to share in our extreme good fortune at finding such a lovely place to stay and John and Lynda deserve to do really well because they are such a great couple but on the otherhand I want to be able to get in for my Sanity breaks as many times as possible! Hoping to be back next month and I'm counting down the days already!

Ive just found my old leaflet for this place years ago it was a home for me and the rest of my Foster clan, Still have some great memories of being here in the spring helpping bottle feed the baby lambs, Watching chicks being born and running around the fields with Rolo the dog..
Not forgetting the play area Me, Rachel & Helen would spend hours climbing up the tractor.
All in all this was one of the best places we spent our family holidays and i think we will be returning again very soon!
I hope both John, Lynda and the children (well we cant be called children anymore cause where all grown up but anyway) are all okay..
Love
The Foster Family
