I was appealed by the hygene standards and your customer service in the Iford branche.
I went yesterday 19 nov 2011 about 21:55 with a group of 5 people. What was astonishing was to see one of the waiter scooping the ice cream with his dirty fingers where few seconds before he ws handling a pen and didnt wash his hands or wear gloves which i consider as basic hygene practice for a parlour like AFTERS which has several branches around London its quiet shocking to see such practises carried out
My second point is regarding the awfull customer services as we were the first people to get into the shop and were waiting for a table but yet the staff would rather offer a table to 2 people who came after us rather than a table to us (5 people). When complained about it the waitress was somehow apologetic but the guy who came after was rather rude and unfriendly and making up rules as they come ie: we had to book a table … but when we walked in the waitress clearly told us to wait for 5 minutes to get a table which then i dont understand why after 20 minutes wait people who came afters us got it.
If this is the hygene practices and the customer service approach than I am better of not going to such places as there are many other places to go. I guess I dont need to mention that after seeing all that and the way we were treated we didnt wait any longer and decided to leave
Yeah went to afters in Croydon after a long awaited opening. The food is not cheap but who cares it was nice and unique. Shop is already grubby and so are the staff. My neice is due to visit in 2 weeks and I would like to take her there. Lets hope its cleaner than it was yesterday as it would be a shame to not go back.
Just visited Afters in South Croydon
Liked the concept, the food was good and it was affordable.
Disliked the fact that this restaurant has only been open 2 weeks and the waitress was wearing a dirty t/shirt, the menus were filthy, glass in icecream counter, door and windows were not clean and full of fingerprints, the tray the bill arrived in had food spillages on it and the guy behind the counter was cutting up the banana for my order just wiped his hands down his trousers. There were 4 staff on duty and a lull of about 20 minutes but no one seemed to be in charge or it certainly was not apparent. I hope the poor hygiene is addressed as I would like to return as a customer but will not if the standards do not improve.
Bit expensive but hey you gotta pay for quality and presentation and Afters have definetely got the wow factor. My family had a great night out yesterday at the Ilford location BIG thanks to the staff..... We will definetely be coming back for more.
Nice environment and comfortable seating but poor value for money on everything except the cakes. The cakes are something that I will rate them for but their shakes are not deserving of the price tag whether it be a smoothie, shake or blend.
Service is not the best and is a bit hit and miss depending on who is working. Should they make a mistake or something not taste right they will not fix it at all and will blame you.
By all means enjoy their cakes but for everything else I'd go elsewhere.
Review is based on both their branch in Ilford and Green Street, Upton Park (which is the worse of the two)
p86 I have to disagree with you there, I think they have great customer service! I went to the Green street branch with a couple of friends and ordered Ice cream and slushies. The slushies were a bit strong and the waiter offered to give us cups of ice or our money back. We ended up getting 3 cups of crushed ice and dividing one of the slushes into the 3 cups and got the money back for the other 2. We got the 6.95 ice creams and they were much larger portions than we imagined and I feel each could have been shared between 2 (if not 3) people! We ended up eating about a third of each of ours.

I loved it. We'll definentely visit again and also recommend to a friend. I loved the variety of the ice crerams and the presentations. A bit too overpriced as you're going there 'after' dinner.
Afters is great, and looks beautiful. Some people say its to expensive but actually your to poor then. If you want a cheap ice cream go to tesco, and asda geh 7 cones for £1. That's what cheap scapes will do. What is money for use it. not to look at it. AFTERS IS GREAT !!
well what can i say.. yes i know its a little bit expensive, but c'mon where do you get presentation like this.. if i wanna cheap ice cream or dessert go to tescos. you pay what you get.. i mean there are resturants charging £1.25 for a glass of water mixed coke and were happy to pay that... you wanna super duooper ices cream then visit any of the afters and thats what your gonna get...

Afters is a rip off and the funky staff are all cowboys..I went there to buy a cake for my friends birthday and asked for the price of a cake, to which they thought for a while and at random replied £25. I agreed to it as i was in a rush and when i asked them to put a birthday message and my friends name on it, they said they will charge me £5 for it. I was gobsmacked....I mentioned to them how ridiculous this was but no luck...they wudnt budge...
Honest request: Please sort your prices out. There is a lot of competition out there. I like coming to your store and dont want to venture to other avenues.
Many thanks - Farhan.

Afters Desert parlour (Ilford lane)
what once used to be a glamorous dessert experience has now spiralled down to be nothing more than a unpleasant and dangerous environment.
What used to previously be a pleasant and successful establishment specifically aimed at our Asian society has suffered several and significant setbacks,
with newly opened up stores such as afters original in green street and Leyton stone and existing branches in the Ilford area, it would have been thought that the level of standards would significantly rise also. During my visit this year in February the Ilford branch looked like a promising establishment and with upcoming green street branch afters looked like it was heading for a huge success as a prestigious company. On the day of my visit in February I awaited normal service ordering one of their popular sundaes a “nutcase”, I was highly satisfied with the product and the products presentation and the extremely polite service which was given to me and my colleague.
I was also was pleased with the shops level of hygiene which was immaculate, they had a fair table waiting service and the staff were polite and attended us in a pleasant manner.
My colleague who accompanied me on the day was also exceedingly pleased with their wide range of Punjabi specials, having purchased a falooda and being extremely satisfied with the quality and overall the taste of the actual product afters looked like a extremely promising concept, over my recent visits one of these being on the evening of October 29th 2009 I received poor service despite the fact that me and my same colleague had been waiting for a table for a considerable amount of time the staff in charge of seating sat down newly arrived customers ignoring the presence of me and my colleague, I tried to bring this to the attention on the manager in charge who ignored my petition and continued serving other customers in the store.
When I finally received the opportunity to sit down the member of staff attending tables had been attending the same table for a significant amount of time which is why I attempted to place my order at the counter with other staff, at this point it was more then evident that those employees behind the counter had very little knowledge of English which is shocking for such a expensive establishment, who have inclusively over the recent months drastically raised their prices but also allowed their standard to drastically drop.
which leads us to question why the decision to raise prices was taken if VAT has dropped and so has the standard of their product and so has their human resource level, it Is disappointing to say that there is absolutely nothing glamorous about afters anymore.
During my last visit after a few minutes I ordered the same thing as the previous time in February a “nutcase” and a “falooda”, the scoops on the sundae were significantly smaller and were not those mentioned in the menu the presentation was very poor and inclusively not very appealing, the milk based product in the falooda tasted bland and significantly watered down which was highly disappointing as they where charging £7.45 for the sundae and £3.95 for the falooda both more expensive then in most dessert parlours EG delights in seven kings and cakes and shakes.
Whilst I was in the store I was approached by European beggars making me very uncomfortable these who were ignored by the staff.
Another incident that occurred on the same evening was a flood of teenage boys entered the establishment pushing customers in the store out of the way and throwing glass bottles and other objects at one of the managers in charge at the time also dragging members of staff over the counter and displaying extremely violent and dangerous behaviour there was also no attempt to apologise to the customers for this occurrence.
Incidents like this have proved to be a threat to the family and safe environment that afters once promoted in the past; it is also disappointing to say that the level of hygiene has inclusively dropped as there were clear signs of insects around my table and the table I occupied was not cleaned prior to being sat at the table, there was also very little attempt to advertise the Halloween season it is very disappointing to see that this establishment has let it’s standard completely drop.
I went on to do further research into why this may be occurring and discovered this type of behaviour was promoted by those in charge of the establishment as they have in recent weeks promoted violent conducts within themselves in the establishment with very violent performances of aggression towards each other in the presence of their customers, the owners who are of an Asian back ground have truly surprised the Muslim community.
Also speaking to employees in the establishments of both green street and Ilford, I discovered that their salaries range from £3.50 to £4.00 and hour which is way below the minimum wage unfortunately these individuals are forced to work at these rates due to the economical environment we are all currently having to endure and it is more then clear that they are being taken advantage of.
what was also thought to be a huge success which was the opening of afters original in Green street which turned out to be a huge disappointment the opening lacked advertising and also there was nothing special about this opening although the store itself looked stunning and like a lot of work had gone into it failed to wow peoples expectations the opening had no opening promotions and the menus had no new products introduced or nothing new or exiting about the menu , it is also more then clear that they have exaggerated on prices comparing to rivals on the same high street who are selling the same product at considerably lower prices.
yasserjugoo1 he is only forcing himself to advertise for this company lol he must be the owner or related to them

Sonz101 who is this Maj2? seriously? if he is a part of After's then damn.. that is just appalling! I personally love after's even though their service and price's could be better. :-)
On a quick note, this "Maj2" needs to learn some manners and accept that other people have views too! I just hope he's not a part of After's, he seems very rude! ..oh and its "Hater" not "HaIter" :-)

lovee afters! definetly a place i will visit again and again! service was impecable, n the rangee of different desserts was astounding! i was spoilt for choice, add to that the atmosphere on a saturday night...was amazing! Definetly reccoment it, specially the 'Honey am home'...definetly a place 2 take ur loved 1 ;)
This parlour has wonderful decoration giving it an american theme. There is so much variety on offer - so many icecream combinations and milkshakes. I had a waffle there with icecream and you can literally have anything you want. Its great. The prices were quite reasonable too.
Afters is designed like an american diner. Its a pinky theme with really nice hot pink seats. They sell a variety of ice creams and many delicious flavours to choose from. You can also buy strawberries covered in chocolate and sweet waffles which are absolutely delicious, my favourite. i recomend a visit.
With only 4 tables and limited dessert options, this place wasn’t the place that we had hoped it too be. On average £5-£6 for an average Ice Cream Sundae and similar sort of prices for a milkshake, we were a little disappointed. The ambience was decent and the service was adequate. We were annoyed that when it came to paying, they didn’t accept any cards and I had to walk 10 minutes to the nearest cash machine. The desserts on offer were mostly all ice cream orientated with a handful of other desserts - similar to what you may get at Pizza Hut. We won’t be going back there in a hurry. Overall comment: go to Frankie and Benny’s. Plus point: Afters are open to really late (2pm).
Afters is a newly opened unique ice cream and desert parlour with a great atmoshpere. It has such a wide variety of ice cream flavours that sometimes you simply can’t decide. Aside from Ice creams, Afters offers everything from cheesecakes, freshly made fruit juice, milkshakes and the usual beverages. It is a very popular place with usually long queues for seating but it does also offer a good takeaway service. A great place which i’m sure will become more well known especially in the upcoming summer.
