Went along based on the excellent reviews this place got. I was expecting amazing customer service and friendly staff and instead was begrudgingly dealt with by a moody, snarly girl at the front desk who was incredibly rude. The guy who cut my hair did an ok job but the highlights were not done closely to the roots and a huge section at the back was missed but had been cleverly blown dried over so it wasn't until catching my reflection in the mirror I saw what a bad job it was. Very disappointed.

John’s been looking after my hair for the last 4 years; although I’ve moved away from Manchester I still go back specifically for hair appointments. Not many hairdressers know exactly what to do with long, curly hair but John’s great. Laid back atmosphere, no frills, very competitive pricing. Have also had my hair done by Ben and Vicky, both of whom are excellent. Less impressed by Greg – think he’s more of a man’s man.

Senior to junior have been amazing! They will listen to what I want and tell me what will and won’t suit me, which in
Previous salons they have not and sent me out looking 10 years older! The atmosphere was very welcoming and the junior members were very attentive and never left me without a drink and offered me a glas of wine! The service was 5 star and I will be recommending then to all my friends. Very impressed!

A relaxed and friendly salon where they can actually cut hair well! My whole family comes here – me, daughter and husband so they can deal with any type and style! Daughter goes to Vicky and husband to John – I am happy with anyone ! Recommended

went to AJM yesterday and was really dissapointed. I had a Group on voucher so got a very good deal - cut and colout for £32. So in a way I cant complain, however I did not get what I wanted. When I arrived at the salon my hair was red - the reminants from my previous semi permanent colour. Quite a light but not overly bold red. So I advised the colour technician that I wanted the same colour but refreshing. As I had not been to AJM before I took a photo with me (which I always do, and every other time in the last 4 years have had it very nearly exactly matched to what I want) and showed the technician. After the colour had been on and my hair washed, I was brought over to the chair for my cut. I could tell immediately that the colour was incorrect. I told my stylist that it wasn't looking right, to which she advised that it would lighten up when it was dry. I was aware of this as I have this colour regularly but I could tell it wasn't right. So a few minutes into the blow dry I told the stylist I was not happy. My hair was totally brown - my natural colour. She agreed and brought the technician back. They discussed and decided to put a 'fudger' on my hair, which is basically a 15 minute strong treatment to temporarily 'stain' the hair. I agreed as I did not like the current colour at all. So after the fudger, my hair was slightly red, but a red wine gothic type of red, as opposed to the brighter red I had before. As the brown was now set in it was too late to lighten it. Then to the cut; it was ok but a bit too much taken off the ends and also when I got home and pulled my side bits infront of my face I discovered that one side is longer than the other! So all in a all not a great experience. Staff were friendly but I did not leave with what I asked for. The technician especially just 'guessed' that the colour would go on my hair as I wanted, how professional. Wouldn't recommend.

I've never managed to find a hairdresser who cuts my hair exactly how I want it, until now! I have been going to AJM for a while now and am never let down. Ben always does my hair and he's great. Very friendly and always listens to what I want. All the staff are really friendly and don't make you feel stupid for not understanding the hairdresser 'lingo'. Definitely recommend it, and I definitely recommend Ben. The prices are reasonable too.

I recently went to AjM for the first time after reading all good reviews online, although i have to say i don't quite know how it achieved such great reviews as my haircut was far from satisfactory.
To start with the stylist was running late so the cut itself was rushed and shoddy, i had long hair and just wanted a trim to get rid of split ends so i asked the stylist for half an inch off, (as i actually wanted it about 4 inch's longer than it was so i could have long wavy hair) she cut at least 4 if not more.
So now i'm back to where i was 8 months ago and will have to wait a year to have it the length i was hoping for and Not only was it not what i wanted but it also has to be the most uneven hair cut i've ever had, seriously one section is half an inch longer than the rest :/ i can't wait for it to grow so i can have it cut properly, in all an expensive waste of time and i certainly won't be going back!!!!

I have been going to AJM for my hair for around 8 months now and each time I have been I've never been disappointed. I have been late a few times (it's my worst trait) and I have never been made to feel bad. The atmosphere is really nice - music on in the background, you're always offered a drink (a beer or wine could be in order at the weekend - if you haven't got a hangover!), and there is always friendly chat. The people in there are lovely, and you don't get the 'snooty' attitude you sometimes get in the city centre (you know the ones). Oh, and the haircuts have been pretty good, too! (thanks Vicky!). All in all, I highly recommend AJM...and some of my friends have already been asking me for their details...

I went here on the strength of the reviews I had read online. I have an event at the end of the month that I needed to look my best for, and a decent haircut was in order!

I had shoulder length hair, and was looking for a longer bob. I stressed that I did not want to lose much length. What I left with was a VERY short bob that I am unable to style. I burst into tears as soon as I got home, £50 worse off. There's nothiing wrong with the cut itself, but I felt that it was not what I asked for and does not suit me at all.

The salon service was very much like a conveyor belt - shuttle from one station to the next with little conversation or explanation of what was going on. I did not feel welcome or wanted, and I felt like they couldn't get me out of there quick enough.

Next time I have my hair cut I shall return to Mufti in the centre of Manchester- a better value, and all round better experience.

I popped into AJM on a whim yesterday (26.08.10) as I was thinking about a serious restyle. Having not really done this before I was a bit nervous. I was going from very long to very short, and I wanted a colour... so I asked if they did consultations...
Straight away Ben asked me to come and have a seat, looked at my hair, talked through styles and colours with me and made me feel very at ease. This was without even having an appointment! And I wasn't charged anything. I was happy with what we had dicussed and so made an appointment for today (27.08.10).
I spent almost 3 hours at the salon, and Ben was not in the least bit annoyed that we had to keep retrying the colour, he made sure it was exactly the colour I was after, and he spent a long time making sure my hair looked fabulous! As well as this all of the staff were friendly and chatty, and I have had the best salon experience of my life!
I would highly recommend anyone to go, as the staff actually care about what you think of your own hair... unlike some others! Five stars, a big thumbs up, and a cheesy grin!

I've been going to AJM and having my hair cut by Vicky for over three years. There's always a friendly atmosphere in the place and you feel well treated - I'm always offered a drink and if I'm a bit early, Vicky will come over to say hi and make me feel welcome. Everyone is chatty and nice and there is always a lot going on. I think the price is really good value as I've paid more elsewhere for the same service. Vicky always gives me what I want, and as I never settle on how I want my hair to look - if I have it short or grow it out a bit - Vicky will always listen!

I've been getting my hair cut and coloured by Vicky since she started training to be a hairdresser at AJM 6 years ago. Vicky always lsitens to what I want and has never disappointed. All the staff at the salon are very friendly and not pretentious at all. I recommend a visit to the salon.

I've been getting my hair cut by Vicky at AJM for about 4 years now and can highly endorse both AJM and Vicky in terms of quality of service, friendliness and value for money. I did live just round the corner from AJM then moved about 10 miles away, but still make the trip as its worth the effort. AJM is a really friendly and relaxed environment and I always have a good laugh whilst getting a first rate hair cut from Vicky.

When I moved to Manchester from Leeds I didn’t think I would ever be able to replace my old hairdresser but I have! After a recommendation from a friend I booked an appointment with Greg and have never looked back. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, a better quality cut than you would find in a city centre salon and if you are lucky you may get a complimentary glass of wine or beer.

Late night appointments on a Thurs and Fri are also really handy if you work full time.

Highly recommended!!

While people say that the difference between a good haircut and a bad one is only 2 weeks, having been the recipient of many a disastrous chop over the years, I’m sure you’ll agree that finding a good hairdresser is a welcome relief. And thus to AJM, which was a personal recommendation from my friend Ruth. I’ve always had mine done by Greg, who is now in charge, and I’ve always come out extremely happy. No messing about, a nice brew etc, the only slight downside is you might have to put up with some crowing about how Man U won the Champions League. But I won’t knock a star off for that…

The other exciting fact about AJM is that my friend Lucy actually married Greg after he did her hair. Is there any better endorsement?

I’ve been banned from cutting our daughters hair (although to be fair, it only really amounted to the odd trim) . I always thought I made a good job of the fringes, but mother clearly thinks otherwise. Anyhow, it’s about time the ‘Post New Romantic Mohawk’ hit the streets of out youths.
Seeing as fancy hairdressers in town charge an arm and leg, and perhaps ever so slightly surplus to requirements (GHD’s for pre schoolers?) a friend of ours recommended this hairdressers (I’d never noticed it before, probably missing it in those cocoons we drive around in) next door to Christies Cancer Hospital in Withington.
We took our first daughter over the weekend and they did such a good job, we took our elder daughter a few days later. Once again they carried out a top notch hair operation on the head of my child. Not only is it professionally run (they have plenty of staff) it’s a place full of warmth and spirit, but equally importantly they know how to cut hair.
I’m thinking of taking my barnet there for a good seeing too (I presume they do fella’s…’unfortunately’ it was full of women when I was in).
With very good prices and genuinely, nice staff (none of the overtly garrulous types that probe the inside of your head rather than the outside) I’d recommend if you live in the area and need a hairdressers then give this place a ‘curl’.
