Had a meal with friends in here last sat oct 09, very nice and reasonably priced. bust at 8 but was empty by 10 good meal and reasonably

This is a large family run hotel right in the centre of town. Good facilities for functions and nice restaurant. I always advise people to stay here. They also run lovely serviced apartments on the quayside.

I didn’t even know about the existence of the Douglas Hotel until I attended a conference held there the other day, and I thought I knew a fair bit about Aberdeen’s hostelry. It was a delight to find this olde-world hotel set into yet another of Aberdeen’s granite streets, this one between a casino and the entrance to the harbour. So, the setting may be less than family-friendly, but the building is like a traditional railway hotel. Dark wood and odd angles abound. The staff were friendly, and everything was clean and functional, if a bit tired looking. There is a reasonably sized ballroom complete with wooden dance floor - and conference facilities. One disorienting thing, a tiny niggle, is the weirdly striped seventies carpet on the lower level, which make the frequent 2 to 3 step level changes tricky.
Remember, I did not stay in any of the rooms, so I cannot comment on that side of things.
Overall, the hotel is very conveniently located for the city centre, the railway station and the harbour. It’s not glass-and-chrome modern, but seems adequate, within the limits of my experience, and has useful things like wi-fi (password from the hotel).
