It is time Harry14 went again to this restaurant, perhaps he would be pleasantly surprised. We could not speak more highly of the service and food that we received. We read this report prior to going and were very apprehensive but really enjoyed the experience.

I can thoroughly recommend this pub to anyone. Friendly, helpful staff who went out of their way to please. Relaxing, welcoming atmosphere. Great choice of ales. Absolutely brilliant food (Duck, Belly Pork & Gammon were fab) cooked perfectly, generous portions and lovely presentation. Was so impressed with the main course that just had to squeeze in a dessert. Yummy. As soon as a table was empty, it filled up again – always the sign of a good pub. Yet, we never felt rushed. One of the best places we’ve eaten at. Will be back. Suggest you book though.

Four of us visited Easter Sunday 2012.I had heard good reviews since the revamp and we were not disappointed. We had a very warm welcome and were made to feel comfortable. There is an excellent choice of cask ales, beers and lagers as well as wines and soft drinks. We were never made to feel rushed during having our meal, one person in our party was vegetarian and was given an excellent choice of meals.
We all had a main meal which was excellently presented and tasted beautiful and the most amazing yorkshire pud and gravy.Everything was cooked to perfection, the service was very friendly and not over bearing like in some establishments. The pub itself had a very relaxing and a traditional contemporary feel.
Then desert, blown away by presentation. The treacle sponge pudding served in a golden syrup tin,GENIUS!The whole party thoroughly enjoyed every part of our experience at The Dog & Duck, will visit again and again.food was the best we have had in a local pub,the beer was excellent and service was friendly.Alot of pubs in this area could learn alot from the staff here. Please ignore reviews from a year ago this place is the best pub i have visited for a very longtime and will recommend it to everyone. Please go you will love it.It was the highlight of my birthday.
Can’t wait to visit in summer and sit in the gorgeous beer garden and have some food from their newly built bbq and bread oven.Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A relative “just wanted” to eat at the Dog and Duck, so a party of 5 of us booked for a lunch.. I was aprehensive about what we may get, bearing in mind a few negative postings on the web, but we all were delighted about the experience. The staff received us with a very warm welcome, and the menu was quite extensive, containing something for all tastes. There were 5 of us, and all but one, selected a different starter, and all gave them full marks. We had 5 main courses, and again they were superb. My colleague had the beef pie, and I was amazed at the size and quantity of the beef it contained. I chose the mixed grll, and was totally outfaced, but managed to eat all the “goodies”. We had 4 desserts, all of which were first class, and we all had a drink or two. They were mostly soft drinks due to us driving, so we did not peruse the wine list.
Try this excellent eating establishment, and forget previous bad postings.

This is the full version of my Yorkshire Post 'Pub of the Week' review which was published June 2011.
After a few years boarded-up and forgotten Walkington’s once-popular Dog & Duck has recently reopened its doors to a very impressed public. Just 5 minutes drive west of Beverley and perfect for a stop off if you’re visiting the Wolds, Walkington has welcomed the pub back like an old friend. The décor and layout are nothing exceptional but this is a well-oiled, friendly operation manned by a small army of keen, attentive young staff and comfortingly seasoned management. It’s large too, with a spacious, tastefully decorated dining area, a lounge with plenty of elbow room and a small but well-appointed back bar that allows the locals to play pub games as loud as they like without the risk of upsetting the diners.
The drink selection is pretty good with four well kept guest ales, a solid wine list and the quirky addition of a gin corner featuring a selection of gins from around the world. What the D&D is really about these days, though, is the food. At first glance the menu appears disconcertingly large and chain pub-like, further investigation, however, reveals pub classics, international favourites and well-conceived specialties of the house. Highly recommended is the meltingly soft slow-roast belly pork and the outrageously over-brimming seafood platter – my dining companion instantly exclaimed ‘I’ll never finish that’ on its arrival. Whatever you order arrives promptly and the portion sizes are a fair reflection of the mid-to-high prices. There’s an admirably dedicated attitude to serving times, too, with the entire menu available all day long, a tempting additional sandwich and snack selection and a choice of generously accompanied roasts come Sunday.
All of this is not to say that the pub is beyond criticism – there’s not the feeling of camaraderie vital to a great pub and outside space is limited to just a car park so sitting in the sun in summer will be problematic – but this is the kind of warm, efficient operation that the major chains strive for but never reach. Perhaps it’s because they don’t value their staff or welcome their customers with the same gusto. Or maybe it’s simply a Yorkshire thing.

Being fond of eating out me and my work colleagues wanted to see what the new dog and duck had to offer, we turned up to what was a thriving night time service to be seated and seen to quickly by a friendly and enthusiastic waitress. The atmosphere and decor was very homely and comfortable, I will definitely be returning for a family meal! The food was delicious and although at first glance seemed a little pricey, the quantity and quality of the product delivered was definitely worth the price.
The staff were ready to get us any extra's, sauces etc as soon as the meals had arrived. You can tell that the food was not frozen and cooked from fresh.
lovely portions lovely presentation and a great atmosphere! what more could you want from a pub style restaurant!

Absolutely dreadful, I too suffered from a huffy waitress on complaining about the food, my steak was supposed to be ribeye BUT noway on this earth was the bit of meat on my plate ribeye
I also know for a FACT that Ms CerocChick38 is a very close friend of the owner and therefore her comment is NOT a true one
Give the place a wide berth

Was expecting good things but extremely disappointed.I had to complain about an item on my plate and the waitress flounced off with it with a huff, plate returned said item re-done but rest of the meal was cold. Also the cut of steak I ordered was NOT what was advertised but having complained once couldn't be bothered to do so again.Pub grub with restaurant prices

My husband and I wanted to check this place out after it reopened to see what sort of job had been done. The decor of the place is definitely an improvement, the place looks new, refreshing and was very comfortable and roomy. We had sunday lunch here and, even though they were obviously quite busy, the service was excellent, the food was lovely and very tasty, well cooked, well presented and with excellent portions, most enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place and will go there again.

I was on the same table as the unfortunate review that was left by the previous person - I certainly had a completely different experieince. The job that the new owners have done on this pub is exceptional and they have put their heart and soul in to reviving this now wonderful pub/restaurant. This is local to me and I have eaten here numerous times and have NEVER had a bad meal there. My father is 82 and finds it very difficult to eat out - he asked me if we could go again next weekend! Try the Fish Bisque or actually any of the fish dishes or the Sunday roasts. I am delighted we have a great place to eat in Walkington again - Carol, your hard work is appreciated.

Would have to disagree with the above review. The staff were moody and the food was below par for the cost The reviewer above seems to have an issue accepting other peoples views which may differ to her own and this person does not have anything to do with the pub which by reading her reviews you would think she does. Everyone has a right to their own view. Thanks

Sunday lunch was lovely, very tasty with real meats, plenty of veg and the best mash Ive eaten in many years - we've booked another table for a few weeks time. I'd have to say with the staffing ratio and attention to detail the place felt more restaurant than pub - really glad to see the place open again. On the minus side the prices where slightly higher then I would have expected and the menu slightly limited especially the starters.

The Dog and Duck, first visit after shopping in Beverley, supprised to see Mansfield Dark Mild available and was a good pint.
But the the menu was unadventurous and overpriced, the food was stodgy looking.
car park was empty whilst the pub next door was heaving always a bad sign.
Had beer and went elsewhere ended up down the road at Drewtons Kitchen

what a menu good prices excellent food the place was heaving,
know where we will be going next time

Not knowing what to make of the "Chinese food" reference I decided to take a look myself.
Cracking pub, great refurb. Marston's Pedigree was the best I've had in a while, rib-eye steak ciabatta and duck wraps were excellent and fairly priced. And came with proper chips, which seem to be making a comeback in these better establishments.
Main menu looks varied and interesting and given this landlord's track record should be top notch.
Why only four stars? No Stella Artois and the staff did occasionally take their eye off the ball. The latter issue can be easily remedied and the former isn't a disaster when the other beers are so good.
Still don't understand the one-star reference to China though.

The Dog and Duck has re-opened and is Brilliant. The food was excellent and the atmosphere Friendly and welcoming. The owners are lovely people who seem to take a lot of pride in their work and have taken great care with the refurbishment of this establishment. I would highly recommend this pub especially for a special occasion such as an anniversary meal as this was our experience.
