It is so sad that I have to write this comment! My family & I have been regulars at farrars since the restaurant opened and until the past year or so we never had a bad meal, although we always thought that the decor was disappointing, especially the toilets (which have deteriorated considerably). However for a while now we have noticed that the service is poor. There is no longer a front of house and standards have slipped. Long gone are the warm bread rolls! In fact you are lucky if you get any nowadays. You now have to wait half an hour before you get a drink as there is not enough waiters/waitresses. We tolerated this for a long while as the food was always good, however over the past few months even the food is disappointing. Corners have been cut. It is apparent that the owners have comprimised quality to save on cost! The interior is filthy, it is beyond belief that environmental health have not closed the restaurant down due to the state of the toilet area alone! My friend and I went for a meal at lunch today, we both ordered 8 oz steak with peppercorn sauce. We waited half an hour before we recieved our drinks, there was no peppercorn sauce served with our meal & we are still waiting for our bread and the second round of drinks we ordered! We paid £12.95 a head for our meal and there was absolutely no way either of our steaks were any where near 8 oz! Sadly this is not the first time I have left disappointed. Sunday lunch has also deteriorated. My family, friends and I must have spent thousands of pounds here over the years however unfortunately we are all of the same opinion, enough is enough we have given farrars the benefit of doubt for way too long none of us will ever use this facility again!!!!!!!!!

I’ve not been to Farrar’s before but I was not disappointed. Unlike most places in Hartlepool the “early bird” menu is available until 7.30, and there is quite a wide selection of dishes on it. I had the battered squid and the rump steak (rare), both of which were perfectly cooked. The chunky chips were gorgeous.

My only criticism is that there was not salt and pepper on the tables. Although I had planned on asking the waiter for some when he brought the main courses he immediately vanished without asking if we required anything else. Luckily the food was fairly well-seasoned so I didn’t miss them too much, and the staff were friendly and polite.

The meal was delicious and great value for money, I will definitely be going back.

Farrars restaurant. Where do I start, Well I will start with the food, the quality is excellent I never fail to be delighted when visiting.The restaurant is light and airy and the staff are friendly. Prices are very reasonable with lunchtime and teatime specials. Give it a try I am sure you won’t be dissapointed.
