BALLINCOLLIG REGIONAL PARK
River, streams and canals, trees (there is a beech walk), wide open fields, historical artefacts, tarmac walkways and rougher paths and even natural watering stops for the dogs are all at hand in if you take a walk in the Ballincollig Regional Park. Took an enjoyable stroll there for an hour or so this morning, from the car park at the Inniscarra Bridge side, and didn't cover half of it.
The river is the Lee and soon, if you take the riverside path, you come across the weir with a view of the bridge back to the west. Quite a few people were out walking this morning and fishermen were taking up positions.
Eventfully came to another big green space, with white blossoms spectacularly contrasting with the duller trees behind (the green buds are there, waiting to burst out), made a circle and turned back, this time taking in some of the playing fields where on one of the six pitches a schoolboy soccer game was in progress.
Back to the car park then and a look at the kids on the skateboard facility before heading home. The historical artefacts by the way belong to the Royal Gunpowder Mills and we really didn't get far enough to see more than one or two. That is another day’s walk.
