Beautiful Sushi! I think the best in London. I had some family over from the US and they absolutely LOVED this place! The sashimi melts in the mouth and the presentation is stunning. Gets my vote!
An authentice sushi bar local to Victoria and Westminster (a stone's throw from New Scotland Yard and Channel 4), Ichi Riki has been around for over a decade and never fails to please.
It is a tiny, tiny little downstairs place and every inch of space is used with typical Japanese ingenuity! Sushi and sashimi is pretty much all they do - they don't distract themselves with noodle or other big dishes (although they had noodles in the past which were excellent, they no longer serve them).
Incrediby fresh sashimi cut from big fillets at the bar to order and served fresh i.e. no pre-made sushi or sashimi. It is a joy to behold. From time to time there are some creative, new variations on offer. In the summer, they sometimes do home made green tea ice cream.
The staff are fantastic, friendly and efficient. Would rather come to this little place for sushi and sashimi than pricier, prettier places. This is a delightful place for people who value what they eat!
This is everything a proper Japanese restaurant should be in my humble book. Kind and polite staff, and an old Japanese gentleman wearing small spectacles quietly preparing sushi behind a bar. The location is a tiny basement decorated with stock photos of Sushi. Tasteful quirky touches abound, from the fantastic cat design wrapping their paws around the menu to the use of giant teacups and saucers for a bowl - this is my vision of Japan all over.
For those seeking sushi near Victoria station, Ichi-riki cannot fail to satisfy. The sushi is excellent and well priced - lunch will set you back about 15 pounds. Be careful when you look for the entrance though - blink and you’ll miss it - another part of the charm of this quirky place.
From the outside I can see how easy it would be to miss this place altogether as I knew pretty much walked right by the doorway without noticing it. This is one of the hidden gem highlights of London eating in my opinion. It’s literally a hole in the wall type of place that seats maybe 40 people, maybe, if crammed in there at each table and around the sushi bar.
From the moment I walked in I anxiously waited for the goodness that I knew would come. I ordered a mixed sushi plate with a tuna roll, salmon roll and 3pcs of a california roll, with miso soup, for just £10! The fish was exceptionally fresh, definitely the best I’ve had in London so far and better than some of my most frequented stops in NYC as well.
Throw in some edamame to start, and a new convert to green tea ice cream and I’d say it was a pretty successful meal! They also have Kirin, Sapporo and Asahi, and a list of cold and warm sakes, and refillable hot tea for a quid if that’s more your thing.
Aniruddh I never test sushi, I just saw it on TV..
The thing is we don’t have any place which serve Japanese food

A tiny doorway on this market street that leads into an equally tiny sushi restaurant that serves some of the best raw fish I’ve had in the UK!
I had the sashimi selection with VERY fresh and thick slices of tuna, salmon, and white fish along with a bowl of rice, some edamame and a great bowl of miso soup - all for around £13.
We sat right at the bar, so we could see the chefs preparing the fish as we ordered it, and it tasted as nice as it looked. In fact we enjoyed it so much that we ordered some of their green tea ice cream for dessert!
This is an easy place to miss as you walk past but you should really check it out if you’re nearby.
george123 sadly I would still leave this place feeling hungry. Sushi just doesn’t fill the hole.

A friend of mine asked me out for dinner a few weeks ago and it was in Ichi-Riki Sushi House. I was having some doubts about the place when I first reached the restaurant; it has a small narrow staircase leading down to the entrance of the restaurant. Down at the entrance, I then had to make my way through the tiny dining space packed with tables and chairs.
However, things turned 180 degrees when the food started to be served. We had Tempura prawn roll, takoyaki, salmon and tuna sashimi, grilled eel, udon, tofu and lots more. It was such a delightful and tasty meal! The food was fresh and well-presented. The menu was varied! This was some of the best Japanese that I have had in London! Although not particularly cheap, the bill came up to £35 per person, it was well worth it! I would definitely return for another!
