The Old Town Square, or Staroměstské náměstí, or Staromák, is the undisputed centre of Prague, and has been for a thousand years. Originally a market square, it’s now the tourist centre. Whether you’re meeting someone at one of the overpriced cafés located on the square, watching the astronomical clock, admiring the architecture, or just planning your next move, you’ll find yourself here eventually.
It’s got an undeniable buzz about it, but my advice is to use it for a meeting-point only. Eating and drinking here is very expensive; go just a few blocks in any direction and prices will start to drop. This is probably also the worst place in Prague for pickpockets (especially amongst the hordes of people watching the clock).
