Cafe De Reiger was much hyped, both by Amsterdam locals and some fellow American tourists that we met while having breakfast at Cafe t’Smalle, but failed to live up to all the hype.

Our food was fine but the seemed pricey for what we received and the service was seriously flawed. We sat long periods between ordering and receiving each dish and once our main courses were delivered we didn’t see our waitress again for at least 30 minutes, even though we sat with empty wine glasses.

Hopefully it was an off night because from everything I’ve heard, you’re one of the best cafes in Jordaan. I really wanted to love you, de Reiger, but sadly I didn’t.
