Just what many of us are looking for in beckenham which has plenty of overpriced bars. This place is cheap drink, think bottle of house wine was about £8, cheap food and an attractive little pub.beer garden is a good size. Only place in beckenham I frequent a lot

Cheap drinks and cheap food!!! The beer garden is fairly large, though it does get full in the summer, but it's one of the only pubs in Beckenham that has outdoor space which isn't on the roadside.

It has real Ales which are apparently really tasty, and we got a bottle of wine for £7.99 - which was actually pretty good.

It's a nice chilled placed to hang out after work or on a weekend.

But it is an old man pub, so don't expect much decor wise.

Looks ordinary from the outside. But your right bex. These “old men’s” pubs have a certain charm about them sometimes. . A lot of “everyday” town centre pubs can bring fights their way off certain characters. .these type contain prob the regulars wanting a quiet drink and chat.

    Hi Paula74

Thanks for the comment. Personally I love these types of pubs, they’re very casual and don’t blast out music, so you can actually speak to who you’re with – gosh I feel old now!

I’ve been to the George quite a few times. It looks great from the outside with it’s very traditional pub look which follows through to the inside but it hasn’t become a favourite. The way the seats are set out - which might be to do with the traditional lay out - (bar in the middle) means you never seem to be able to find the right table - half of them seem to be by a drafty door which is really cold in the winter with the smokers constantly in and out. The menu is fine with the things you would expect and an ok selection of veggie food. They also do a very strange pub quiz which somehow makes it almost impossible to win even if you know every single answer which might be worth checking out just for the novelty factor.

The George is an inn that has preserved a bit of that ‘Ye Olde’ spirit; low ceilings, a fireplace and overall a bit battered around the edges. I’d come more for the company than the decor. Walk in from the front door and you’re virtually falling over the bar and into the barmaid’s arms, which last night I would’ve been quite happy to; a beautiful smile and very friendly!

I remember this being the first place I tried Guiness Red, on a Monday quiz night, which is still a regular part of the schedule. The snooker was on the moderate sized plasma last night, but I don’t think they have sky. Kids are allowed in till 6 and there is a good sized terraced beer garden and parking.

Nothing too spectacular or spectacularly bad about this place, I’d rather go here than some of the characterless chain pubs towards the bottom end of the high street. Not a bad selection of beers either.
