C’mon, we all know we are suckers for any form of sweet delights. Somewhere deep inside all of us is that childish excitement that makes our mouth water with delight when that nagging sweet tooth rears its head. And after sampling many various hubs of deliciousness in and around Cape Town, Coimbra Bakery is certainly one of the many must-sample bakeries.

Specialising in a variety of traditional Portuguese bakery delights, the Portuguese Luiz family who own the bakery certainly know who entice the senses. You know you are in for a treat when you walk into the bakery with its enticing smell and beautifully arranged, freshly baked decadent treats lining the shelves.

The Coimbra Bakery has two branches in close proximity, one in Lansdowne Road and one in Main Road, Claremont. The easiest would be to take a premium-fare taxi to take you to Main Road, Claremont but be warned that they are likely to charge tourists exorbitant rates. However if on a budget I would recommend a trip in one of the local taxi’s for a incredibly cheap rate and you would need no help in finding them as they leave from the city’s CBD belting out “Mowbray Wynberg!”. Hop in to the one shouting that and you are on your way but be sure to ask exactly where they are heading as you might find yourself in a very different place to where you intended.
