Hmmm…. I’m not sure it was the best pub I’ve ever been to in the area, but it was a great venue for a party. It was cool having the room downstairs to play in and the staff were really lovely.
It’s also nice to have a conversation with the owner of a pub now, instead of a student barman (not that there’s anything wrong with them).
The ability to stand outside is nice if you want to smoke, although I’ve never been a fan of drinking by main roads so this put me off slightly. But Timinator and i liked the pub enough to stick around after everyone else had left and have another beer with friends.
I’m not sure you need to venture all the way down here from Farringdon tube to get to a good pub - I think there are many better options nearer to the station, but it’s not a bad boozer at all.

Interesting place to get to. It’s not really that hard, once you know, but anywhere involving streets on two levels is bound to be interesting. Especially on a street with little in the way of numbering. Luckily a fellow Qyper stopped me walking boldly off in the wrong direction in search of building numbers, and we located it right under the viaduct (which is not too dark a location by the way).
I didn’t really spend much time on ‘reviewing’ if you know what I mean. Too much enjoying the company! But the downstairs space for the Qype party was nice. Staff were lovely. I enjoyed my drinks. And I enjoyed the pizza: slightly scorched to perfection and a great flavour.
At one point a few folks were complaining the music was too loud for talking. It was soon turned down. At which point it became clear we could make quite a deafening noise without the music! Anyway, 2 seating areas off the main room enabled groups to form for some good conversation.
I seem to remember the loos were nicely decorated too…
Finding my way home was interesting as well. After negotiating the steps to the viaduct I nearly got a bus in the wrong direction and missed the right one in the process… Easy to get turned round when you are slightly tipsy and working in 3 dimensions rather than 2…

Cracking little grade 2 listed building that seems to have changed hands quite a bit over the years, but with any luck the Plum Tree should be here to stay for a few years yet.
It’s a pretty spacious bar that manages to feel cosy at the same time. Beer’s good but the wine is better, and the staff are brilliant, can’t do enough for you.
The outdoor space is basically the pavement under the Holborn viaduct, but there are worse places to drink on a summer’s evening.
A good place to know about if you’re in the area.

The Plumtree has a nice vibe to it. When the weather is nice the crowd spills out onto the sidewalk unencumbered by traffic and other such silly concerns. They also have a large, vibrantly coloured venue room on the lower ground level available for hire and it is quite cozy for a party of up to about 70 people. The staff are really approachable and helpful in answering any questions you have with regards to the venue hire, and are happy to be flexible with the menu and drink options you prefer so that they can tailor the night to your particular needs. We felt really taken care of at last week’s Qype party thanks to the manager and staff.

Encased in a lovely old building tucked under the Holborn viaduct, The Plumtree is a lovely place for evening drinks. There is an extensive winelist, a good choice of beers, and while I did not order from the menu, I would have high expectations.
The lighting and new furnishings guides it towards more a trendy bar than a dank old pub and it’s a great destination for work drinks, meeting a friend or a fun night out. Staff are friendly and happy to help.

Nice place to go to for a Qype event, although it’s a long, long way down from Kings Cross. Had to ring the office to check the location. Didn’t see much of the upstairs, but appeared to be spacious, plenty of room outside for smokers, although you may not want to spend too long outside, as the bar is situated right underneath Holborn Viaduct, so all those fumes are going to fall directly in your beer.
The basement was nice, with two cosy seated areas for intimate little chats with friends, ormeals etc. They serve Becks Vier, which is a useful break from the 5% mob.
The food we had was a little bit overcooked, and there wasn’t enough of it! Anyway, can’t really complain for nothing. The chips definitely needed ten minutes less.
To sum up, ones of those pubs that are great if you’re in the area, but not worth going out of your way for.

Nice bar (yes, more bar than pub) just beneath the Holborn Viaduct. Busy with city types but with friendly staff (and owner!) and with Staropramen on tap. It’s well-laid out over a few floors, and isn’t cramped. There’s wide pavements here, so there’s plenty of outdoor space too.
We had a Qype event here and reserved the downstairs, which worked really well. They’ve got a bar down there, and there are couple of side rooms with tables for those who want to get out of the buzz of the main room.

The PlumTree’s a lovely pub that, despite its impressive three levels, is a cozy place for a drink. With its location near the Holborn Viaduct, it’s really convenient for me and I’ll probably return soon - and definitely keep it in mind for meet up with folks, particularly friends working in Holborn and the City.

Great little find this one. Very popular with the after work crowd and cool little location next to and almost under the Holborn viaduct. Definatly more bar than pub, it is airy with the brick inside feel that I really like. Based on a couple of floors, it is delicously roomy on each floor and hosts a very large pavement area for alfresco drinking or just smoking. Lovely staff, nice pizza, good selection of spirts and Staropramen on tap. This place is a genunie good egg.
Will visit on another occasion for after work drinks at happy hour prices (£2 a beer 5-7pm) or for lunch. In fact, also ideal for pre-clubbing drinks if your going out in the farringdon area afterwards.

The plummy-purple sign alerts you (subtly) to this friendly city bar. The décor is attractive: cleanly inviting with cool wooden floors, open brick-work and groovy '60s posters adorning the walls.
The staff are fab, they couldn’t be more helpful or efficient. I was really impressed to be offered a taste of the white wine I enquired about, before ordering a full glass. It was delicious, a top-quality, youthful South African Chenin Blanc.
We Qypers had an excellent, convivial party experience here. The basement was a little warm but it was a good space, conducive to socialising and with attractive seating areas. I’m sure many of us would return when we’re in the area.

This is my business
Good looking place with a nice front bar, a cosy mezzanine area and a large basement with bar. Very friendly staff, good lunch & evening menu & above average quality wine list that has some stars & is modestly priced. Available in 3 areas for functions and appears popular for this.
Has free WiFi and were happy to serve a coffee to a surfer
