This is carbogasmic!!

If you are too wrapped up in your world of dieting or believe in the Atkins system, then this is not for you. However if you are looking for that unique pasta or spaghetti experience, you will come into the right place.

Spoon House has been on my radar for so long, it was dying to get scratch off my list of places I have wanted to visit. I am big fan of Blue Marlin restaurant in West LA. When I heard that there was another Japanese style pasta house in Gardena, I was excited and was very giddy.

After 10 months? since I first heard about this place, I have decided to give this place a try. It did not disappoint me.

It didn’t disappoint me, but it threw me quite a loop. First, the place was very small. You might think about coming here early or prepare to wait. Ten people in our group already took over half the allotted seats. It’s not a very big restaurant at all. Very cute little place. It so reminded me of a little boutique shop you might find at La Cienega.

I have heard that the complimentary bread is a hit. Well, for me, it was not bad, but that was not what I came for. It is freshly baked and putting a little butter on it will make it taste good. It’s not my cup of tea if you know what I mean.

There are several menu items that they are known for. Obviously the big ticketed items were their spaghetti mixed either with creamy cheese sauce or with soy lemon sauce. It obviously have some Italian flavors to it with some Japanese preparation thrown in. The noticeable difference was the way how they added in the spiciness and the Japanese seafood to go along with the noodles.

I ordered a very simplistic noodle with some nice add ons. It is a spaghetti with sea urchin, seaweed, and mushroom in oyster shells. Nicely prepared with fresh ingredients to make this a savory dish. I have also tasted my table companion’s hot garlic spaghetti… it have a very hot kick to it, but very flavorful without overdoing it on the spicy level.

To cap off the carbo fest, I also ordered a Iced Coffee Float to wash down my lunch (see picture).

The dish I want to try out next time is either the hot garlic or the Spoon House Seafood Gratin (which on the menu claimed it will take 20 minutes to prepare).

It’s a real hit and miss on you like to interpret what a noodle or spaghetti is going to taste like. Especially it has the garlic, basil, and mushroom that a normal Italian restaurant would serve. This unique dining experience will put a whole new spin on what an alternative universe to Italian cuisine would be like.

With chicken, seafood, and other unique dishes on hand, it will be hard to decide what to get when the menu is pass around. The service was very attentive and very helpful in assisting you on your ordering decisions.

The men’s restroom was weird because of space conservation, the sink was a little triangle next to the door. Totally caught me off guard with that.

Best noodle in town? Well, honestly very close. I was just happy to cross this off my bookmarked place in my list.

BTW, I don’t know why it’s called “Spoon” House… considering I didn’t get a spoon or used a spoon throughout my meal.
