Compliment Pepsimonster (11-05-2008) 5

Eventually, they will have to let me in to the place.

After a few attempts which I was turned away, not because of the dress code, but because of private parties (check their website for special events because they will not open to the public for certain dates for private parties). I decided to make one good attempt to get into the place.

Here’s what I gathered on what type of people they will let in. Bust out Season 1, or Season 2, or First part of Season 3 of HBO’s “Entourage”. Try to imagine for one moment, which character would have no problem of getting in. They’ll definitely let in Vincent Chase (with a designer shirt and dress pants), Lloyd will get in as do Ari and E. Johnny Drama will get in with his Gucci pants and Versace shirt. You know who won’t get in?...Turtle.

Watch the show or the DVDs, you’ll see why a guy with a sport trousers, blazers, cap, and a $20,000 Fukijama sneaks will never get into a club like this. That is the person that will never get pass to any real swanky place. Plus he’s not going to score with the chicks anyways.

Now I do admit in that I came in during the happy hours, so I never have endured Saturday night nightmares that so many people had talked about. When I left around 9:40pm on Friday night, people can still get in without any problems. Knowing the busy club party scenes, most place won’t get busy until 11pm so I would plan early if that was the case.

Edison like so many described ahead of me is a very posh and swanky of a lounge bar at the Old Higginson building in downtown LA. The entrance is located next door to China Bistro. After getting in without any trouble, you will see an open air lounge seatings for the casual smokers next to the entrance. There are two stairwells. One leads to upstairs for private room, the other downstairs to where all the action is.

The downstairs to the lounge have two big open bars. One is close to the dance stage while the main one is close to the boiler rooms. One big impressive feat about this place was the restoration of some of the most antique generators and furnace that were beautifully replicated it to its glory days. Now it’s part of the fixtures at some of the lounge rooms that Edison have to offer.

They do have a lot of very comfy and spacious seatings. With a interesting restored jukebox on display, you can choose your selections of modern hits with the cost of 2 songs for a buck. Two pool tables are there for the enjoyment, but it is being used as props for most of the night.

The crowd and atmosphere are more towards to the younger business crowd, looky loos who wants to experience this place for the first time, downtown scenesters, bar crawlers, downtown hipsters, and of course… cougar prowlers. Hey, everyone is in the house!

The wait service still needs to work out its kinks as the service is not very smooth even on a less busy time. Going to the bar to get your drink is much faster and they do take your card for tabs if you like. Otherwise, the staffs that worked there was very friendly and cordial on the night I happened to be there.

The place do have an excellent selections of cocktail drinks and a full food menu. When you come in during Happy Hours on M-F, 5-8pm, the drinks are almost half off. The big plus is that the happy hours is extended until 8 which is always a big plus in my book.

The questions coming into this place was whether or not it’s worth to dress up and if it was as bad of a clothing check as other have described previously by some reviewers. First, I think the management did read all the reviews to lax the dress code in recent months to letting jeans in (they still won’t let worn out sneakers). It doesn’t really take that much to dress up as most people are dressing casuals with loafers and got in without any trouble.

As I pointed on top, I got in without any problem and didn’t encountered any bouncer issues. It’s probably better off to come in during weekdays and avoid late night Saturday (as with any other popular bars/clubs).

In having a good time goes, it is somewhat loud and very dim lighted where I can easily mistaken strangers as my friends. It is what a cool party would be like and as long as you let the mood sets in and enjoy the many decorative displays and props what the lounge have to offer, everything will be fine.

Now, we just to fight for poor ol’ Turtle and let his 20K sneakers in.
