It seems to be unanimous - the views of Hamburg from the Tower Bar are unparalleled. Even if you cannot get a seat next to the windows (on a weekend), the place is small enough to be able to see the views from almost any seat - even the bar. This makes it worth a trip here even if it is for only one round of drinks.

The drinks are another story… They remind me of the cheesiest American bar in the world with Tom Cruise (see “Cocktail”), serving up drinks to loud and obnoxious music. Plenty of skewered fruit on hand. I also found the worlds worst cocktail here: beware of the St. Pauli Killer. It tastes like a mix of every liquor in the bar - plus 10% cleaning fluid. It’s not just strong, it’s disgusting. And I thought I would never find a mixed drink that I didn’t like…

Tower Bar is OK - the initial view has a great wow factor, but you get bored of it pretty quickly. It's basically packed at the weekend, so it's difficult for anymore than 2 people to sit together properly. The cocktails are quite pricey and not particularly good. I'd definitely come here for a beer or two with one other person if they hadn't seen it, but otherwise wouldn't hurry back.

This bar has amazing views there's no doubt about it. However, it's a bit like being in a bar in Blackpool (atmosphere/price/customers), but don't let that put you off. Definitely worth a visit for the views just don't stay all night!

I went here last night and had a really good time. This place probably has the best view in Hamburg. 360' views of the harbour, downtown and the Dom. It's set on 2 floors but you want to make sure you get a window seat upstairs. The cocktails here are tall and tasty. I drank 4 mojitos and polished off the night with something called a "St. Pauli Thug". It sounds menacing - I envisaged half a glass of whisky topped off with a handful of nails and a shot of tobacco spit. But what came was a fruity, colourful, pina colada esq. cocktail which had dale winton written all over it. The rule of thumb in the UK is that you can only drink a cocktail like this if you are lying on the beach and the drink is brought to you by a topless waitress.... and it has to be free. So i felt a bit on edge as i sat there peering through a jungle of sugared cherries, skewered pineapples chunks and colourful parasols. I sat waiting for the inevitable "Is this a gay bar?" quip from one of the locals. But it never came. Not a raised eyebrow in the house. Just thigh slapping, smoking, hearty laughter and stories of papas bratwurst. Ah, Germany......

After the St. Pauli Thug, i was well and truly gone. It took us about 20 minutes to find our way out of the hotel. Vague memories of ending up in the basement, trying to walk into cupboards and then falling over. It would appear they make their cocktails strong in Hamburg!

All in all, probably the best cocktail bar (and view) in Hamburg. Highly recommended.
