10 reviews of Moksh in English
recently visited cardiff from india on a business trip my taste buds was tingling for a decent indian meal as i was not sure about an indian restaurant in cardiff
i got refered to moksh through trip advisor..i was truly impressed with the the meal and the presentation.the service was polite i am a vegetarian and very choosy i guess the meal in moksh was just perfect very close to the high end restaurants of mumbai i just thouht ill pass the good news..
Too expensive
Service terrible.
Food average to good - but way too overpriced.
Would not eat there again - Avoid!
Mike_j everyone has an opinion but this is one I would very much disagree with, but then I'm a regular at Moksh and the food is consistently of a high standard, yes it is mid-high priced but the quality of the ingredients, presentation and flavours justify it in my view, we often share a dish which keeps costs down. Terrible service? no way, 8 out of 10 can't be that wrong - check out trip advisor too for the same high ratings.

great2cyou Indeed they have Mike J :)
Maybe we hit it on a terrible day . . . or maybe you should try a few others. We've NEVER had to share dishes to keep costs down in an indian. We usually end up with a doggy bag to take home which we didn't at Moshe, so to share a dish ~ I don't think so!
£6-50 for a glass of wine.
Told that we could have a table in 5 minuites ~ ended up waiting 20. Were not even offered a drink while we waited.
Perhaps they treat regulars there differently but we will never know!
Unfortunately we were so disapointed that we will not try it again. We don't often leave reviews but all four of us felt so disapointed, especially at Moshe prices, that others should be warned.

A stunning and unusual Indiain restaurant that really does stand out among the surrounding chain restaurants, and not only because of the bright orange exterior.
Proper thought and some experimentation has gone into creating a menu that's detailed and varied, which has some of the regular dishes you'd expect from an Indian restaurant but with a twist, plus some very unusual new dishes we'd never heard of. It was beautifully presented on the plate, with generous quantities (none of the nouveau cuisine cliché of tiny portions), and it tasted as good as it looked- rich, fresh-tasting and complex.
Service was friendly and attentive and not over-bearing.
It certainly isn't cheap but it's well worth a special trip, for sure.
One word, Amazing.
Moksh was reccomended to me by my Dad and he is normally highly critical of non traditional food however even he could appreciate the great flavours in every dish! Moksh is definitely an up market restaurant and prices reflect that, however in my opinion worth every penny! I Hope to be returning soon to enjoy another wonderful curry from the best indian in Cardiff!

Wow. One of the best curries I have ever had. Seriously impressive.
As already mentioned, this is a restaurant which takes itself very seriously.
The menu is pretty interesting, if not extensive. The prices reflect the (probably) exorbitant rent but not necessarily the quality of the food - I'd probably recommend Mango House (Westgate Street) for a classy Indian where the food is nicer and the menu better worked out.
We ordered a curry and a kebab as mains - the menu said that the kebab came with noodles. Yet there was no sign of the noodles. The waiter indicated the garnish of carrot and beetroot "string" in the corner of the plate. Under this we found 3 (yes, 3!) noodles. Misleading at best, stupidly pretentious at worst. We complained and got an extra bowl of rice.
So overall, expensive but ok. Won't be going there again.
seriously stunning food, i remember going here last year for a birthday party.
an amazing menu that i was a little put off with at 1st because its not your usual run of the mill Chicken Korma kind of place… but what i did have the Lamb Bhuna(as far as i can remember hehe)
was quite expensive, but you are paying for its lovelyness and the fact that yuour never gunna eat anything like it again.
of the many Indian cuisine restaurants in Cardiff, Moksh has to be at the top of any list for consistent high standards, superbly presented food and the ability to hit your taste buds with exquisite and well balanced flavours that make your mouth water before during and after the meal as you contemplate your menu, enjoy your chosen dishes and recall the taste as you enjoy an after dinner coffee to finish off your evening.
We have had great food on every visit and we’ve been quite a few times. Moksh has a warm subtle ambience, friendly service, and, in Stephen Gomes, a magician of the culinary arts of the east. Prices are in the mid-high range but the servings are healthy and can be shared and so the budget can be balanced. As a family of three, we are looking forward already to our next visit!
I had a similar experience to Randolph, exept the waiter took about twenty minutes to come over and take our food order, not three!
When I ate at Moksh, I LOVED the food, but the staff didn’t rush to greet us on arrival and I found the reception quite cold all the way through the meal. It wasn’t even busy - there was only the three of us and another two couples in. It was expensive, but the food was very tasty. It was a little shmancy I guess (the king prawns came hanging on a giant metal hook) and the lamb dish was so rich it was impossible to eat by myself, but the flavours were gorgeous.
I definitely want to go back to try some other dishes off the menu, but I would consider it a treat. I wouldn’t go to Moksh as a regular thing.
rockeypops First visit on Saturday evening, the sauce that accompanied the chicken biryani was only enough for a quarter of the meal, was then just left with a pile of dry rice, asked for a medium sauce but was more like a madras. Asked for a glass of water but was told they only sell bottles. I consider £3 for a bottle of water extortionate to say the least. Definitely won’t be going back. Much better Indian restaurants in Cardiff at half the price.

UPDATE: Stephen Gomes has been in touch with me to say that he was born in Goa, and to advise that the new Moksh website is www.moksh.co.uk (have a look and you'll see just how seriously this place takes itself). He has also reviewed his own restaurant under the Qype identity Rajendra. (26.07.08).
ORIGINAL REVIEW (May 2008) :An unusual restaurant, this, placing itself in the up-market niche of Indian Restaurants but masterminded by Head Chef Stephen Gomes who dubs himself "Chef of the Year - Craft Guild of Chefs - Master Chef Roll of Honour". I cannot say for sure whether Stephen hails from the Sub-Continent or if he is of another national origin, but even if it's the latter this would not, of course, disqualify him from cooking Indian food! The food itself met with a mixed reception from our party; I personally found that the style was too much like Nouvelle Cuisine, which I do not think suits the nature of Indian Food. The Menu gives a very good choice, but one cannot help being suspicious of items such as Yorkshire Pudding on an Indian menu! Each dish was described in detail on the Menu - too much writing for my liking - but the waiter asked if we were ready to order after about 3 minutes! There was hardly time to read the long, and sometimes pompous, opening page about the cuisine, let alone the descriptions of the dishes. The web site http://www.mokshrestaurant.co.uk/ is no use at all; the Home Page is in Latin, the other pages are empty. A 3-course Dinner with wine will set you back about £35 per head.
