Thira on the island of santarini is a stunning location. Perched on the edge of the old volcano rim. To get up to it from the sea if you on a cruise ship is a dilemma of which mode of transport to take. The easiest is the cable car, it's quick, clean & stunning views of the bay. The other 2 methods still offer a stunning view but the donkeys tend to pong a bit & if you walk it's hot, slippery (donkey poo & wee) & a bit hazardous. Having said that I opted for the cable up & dodge the donkey going down. The town is typically Greek with sugar cube houses & tiny streets. There are some great views if you follow the cliff edge along, it's not a track but a purpose built walkway with a wall. The colours within the cliff face are fascinating. It's hard to imagine it was once a huge volcano that blew off it's top & just left a plug in the middle of the bay. Would recommend a trip here as the sunsets are to die for.
