Review of Tomatillo Tex-Mex To Go from 19 June 2012

This is the best place in Amsterdam to get some real (Texan/So.Cal. style) tex-mex. Their super-taco's with grilled wild salmon & mango salsa is a true party in your mouth. The huevos-rancheros are just phenomenal and their super (smothered) burrito's are the best in Amsterdam. What I LOVE about this place is that they work with fresh ingredients, and when you are eating the food, is it possible to distinguish the various ingredients. They have a tomatillo salsa that will blow your mind away, and as the owner told me, the tomatillos are not imported but they get them from a local who grows them organically under glass. And as a girl who absolutely loves her salsa, I am thrilled that they have about six or seven different ones to choose from. Their corn salsa is awesome, their habanera one will make you sit on the tip of your chair, and the chipotle tomatillo salsa is the best, and my go-to-one on the menu. Their portions are perfect. Not to big, not to small. But the Super smothered burrito might only be a good choice when you are very hungry ;) If you go, you must try the liquado's these drinks are fresh fruit blended with ice and some cane sugar and are super refreshing. Last time I was there I noticed that they had some rhubarb crumble (my favorite!) and I took one to go and enjoyed it later with some tea at home. Very nice indeed, and the portion was big enough to share, so it was the perfect little treat!

Nice looking place, nice service but the most important, the food, is just tasteless, bad and overpriced. Burrito full of rice, meat with taste of nothing and not melted cheese strips. For 9,50 euro without extras. I prefer the taco shop in the pijp a hundred times.
