I agree with Deanne, the idea of ordering things through a catalogue to go and pick them up yourself seems pretty pointless but it is actually quite useful. We place great value on our home copy of “The Argos Catalogue” as it serves as a price comparison and general buying things guide!
The prices are generally cheap and they often have good deals on their products.
Watch out that when you look through the catalogue you do not confuse the “Argos extra” items with the normal “Argos” items as this always leads to confusion and embarrasment at the checkout….

Coming from California, catalogue ordering was something usually reserved for the reclused, the outcasts of society….weirdos. Why would you not want to touch and feel everything you buy, and be able to throw it in the back of your SUV for instant gratification.
I have to say, where I come from, it is pointless. But here? Invaluable. You order at the store or online and it is delivered quickly on a day with a set by you, few hour time frame, or you can carry it home.. or pick it up yourself later! Options!! I still find it weird to walk in to a store of catalogue stations, a cashier and an item pick up area. Kooky!
This Argos in particular is located in the middle of Putney high street inside a shopping center on the second floor. It is clean, has plenty of seating as you await your order and never seems too busy. It has bus stops a short walk away on either side, and is near Putney train station. It is about a mile walk to the nearest tube.
I have no car. No friends with cars. I don’t want to piss off the bus driver and my fellow passengers loading a king size bed frame on my 2 mile journey home. Let alone buying my dining set which I guess I could have brought home in 7 boxes and 14 bus rides… and about 5 hours later.
So I love Argos. It is cheap yet a step above Ikea. It has amazing variety in styles and products. They also do have more expensive quality items and name brands. They are owned by Home Base and sell the same furniture, but are sometimes a bit cheaper than Home Base.
I have purchased beds, electronics, bedding, window treatments, art, bathrooms accessories, a crock pot, pillows. you can get anything here really. They have toys, vacuums, BBQ’s, jewelry, mattresses, ironing board covers.. you name it, look it up on their website.
Don’t shop for it, flip through a catalogue, check the stock, scribble your item codes, pay the cashier, wait at the pick up counter, Argos it! Hip Hip Hurray!
