Axolotl is a fish type lizard, I think they look quite cute, they are pink for goodness sake! Well , a really light pink. Although this is no pet shop! They do however have a little Axolotl in the gallery as their little mascot! Pure brilliance.
I'd seen this new gallery online and stumbled accross it earlier today, it really drew me in with the paintings in the window, it looked really contemporary and different. I was drawn to so many paintings in here and a lot of it is by emerging young Scottish talent which makes me like it more. Really different, gorgeous art, one particular painting caught my attention which was done by the artist making a stencil of an old photo and actually using household dust to make a contrast. It was really amazing and so unusual and I was instantly drawn to it the minute I stepped foot in the gallery.
The other notable mention about this gallery is that the manager walked straight over and introduced himself and actually told us about the artist with the dust and then, pretty much left us to browse and call out if we needed help. You never get that in galleries.. So helpful but also stepping back and you could tell he was really passionate and interested in all the artists...
Worth dropping in to have a look if your near the area, especially if you dont usually like art, I'm sure you would find something in here that you like, its a great space, not too big and not too small. They also have sister galleries in Leith. Loved it. Have a look.
I went to a Preview Evening as my sister was exhibiting. I was really impressed by the space and light in the gallery. I found the owners friendly and enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the work on show. It is definitely worth a visit.
