Halli

Halli has now reopened as Shivalli in Welford Road and I’m pleased to say has gone back to it’s veggie roots. Halli is dead – long live Shivalli!
I always thought it a bit bizarre that a successful restaurant changed it’s focus so dramatically and the reviews suggest it wasn’t a popular move, so I am over the moon to see it return.
The thalie options are a firm favourite with a large variety of dishes served up in small portions, with pappadams and poori/chapthi breads. Halli/Shivalli is the only restaurant I choose the soft drink option because the fresh juices are fantastic – check out the specials board. I seem to remember strawberry and lime juice as a particularly good one.

Staff are always warm and welcoming and this is definitely my favourite Indian restaurant. Highly recommened!

This used to be one of the best vegetarian Indian restaurants ever when it was Halli - we had been loads of times in the past. We booked it again and were gutted to arrive and find it had changed to Kayal and now serves mostly meat dishes. Starter was good but main very disappointing. Not much choice for veggies. The meat eating friend we went with didn’t enjoy his meaty meal either. What a shame.

Unfortunately, this is now called Kayal and serves meat dishes, just like almost every other restaurant in Leicester.

It used to be good vegetarian food, but now there is no good reason to visit.

The owner of this entry needs to amend the description (ie, it is NOT vegetarian) and the restaurant name (it is NO LONGER Halli).

Very good vegetarian restaurant. Large selection of foods. Never thought that vegetarian could be so interesting. Good prices, great spices

best south indian vegetarian restaurant in leicester. been there more than a couple of times. have the dhosa and fresh fruit juice. fantastic. service excellent.

Always friendly staff, delicious vegetarian food, different from the usual indian fare you find on London Road, well worth a visit!

This restaurant has a fresh and modern feel to it, with excellent service from the staff.

Original and authentic food, with a good variety. The only reason i’ve marked it down to 4 stars is that no matter how much I request the food to be mild it always comes really spicy. It tastes great but burns the roof of my mouth of!! LOL

I took a 1 year old with me last time and it was no problem, there was a high chair, and we didn’t feel like we were a pain or unwelcome.
