Been to The Crown three times since the new owners took over.......oh dear! Refurb is a bit stark and service is poor. On one of our visits our meals arrived cold and had to be sent back. Not a very adventurous menu. Will give it one more try, but since Kevin left the atmosphere is less friendyly and welcoming

Went to The Crown Pub in Northill for a Valentines meal - 14/2/2011.
(had been there several times for meals before with friends before new owners took over, so thought we'd see how the Pub was now.)
Was very disappointed. Gone was the very welcoming atmosphere and laughter, as also the great filling meals that we'd experienced previously.
Few people were there, very quiet indeed with very little atmosphere.
All just felt very 'business like' and we got the impression the Pub now perhaps seemingly targetting a more 'professional' and wealthier clientel?
The meal itself tasted excellent and was very enjoyable but expensive. Portions were small indeed and not really sufficient for a mans appetite.
The roast lamb serving was small with just potatoe and brocolli.
(where were the carrots etc?)
All very sparse indeed and served on an 'upmarket' but small piece of slate.
(alright if you'd had something to eat beforehand and were looking for a 'top up', no good at all if you wanted a real meal.)
Service was a little slow, (albeit it suited us for that occasion), but if you wanted quicker service then you might have to prompt.
My wife enjoyed it though (she's a small eater) so suited her, but I had to eat again when I got back!
Real shame, we live locally and wanted to make it our eating place, but with those childlike small portions, regretably we'll eat elsewhere.
Summary: Food quality excellent, but need more on a bigger size plate!

For the past three years this has been an excellent little country pub serving good beer and excellent food that received an award last year.
Great location, large garden and play area and a perfect place for special occasions. Sadly the pub is now closed until October following the departure of landlord Kevin and the team a few weeks ago.
When it re opens it will be well worth a visit as great things have been promised by the incoming landlord.

For the sake of fairness, just received a response back from the new Management at the Crown, apologising for the small meals, (re. the written comments I left with them after the meal), and that they have now spoken to the Kitchen Team.
Also, offering us a free drink when / if we return.
At least here's an establishment that is 'listening' and seems to care what its customers think, so at least some marks for their good response!
We will go back at some point to see if adult portions (rather than childrens ones) are being served, and will then report to you all accordingly!
