Absolutely LOVE going to The George when I go home. This is the place that all other mezze is judged against!
I’ve had practically everything on the menu… starters, mains, mezze, sandwiches, desserts! And i’m never disappointed.
This place did used to be better in terms of the customer service. One of the previous partners sold his share, and since then, a lot of the regular staff seem to have left, and some of the ones that have replaced them are a little bit slack. So a little bit more staff training might not go amiss.
However, the surroundings are lovely, the restaurant is great if you’re wanting a more formal experience, and the beer garden is great in the summer!

love it! The Grand Mezze is not for the faint-hearted and would probably feed a small village!

Stuck up and overrated. The bouncers are so up themselves they think its Manhatten not Thornbury - Downend even worse!

One of the best place that I have ever eaten at!
I travel a lot across the UK as a part of my job. Every week-differnt place, different hotel, different restaurant. This one is definitely on the top of my list. We have eaten there a lot since it has been opened and I can proudly say we have tried every dish on the menu. My favourite is the fish stew and my boyfriend is slightly obsessed with their rump stake with lovely peppercorn sauce. The service is absolutely great.
The place can get really busy and sometimes you may wait a little bit longer....but it is worth every minute.
The best thing is: they are only a couple of yards from where I live!

Pub & Restaurant. Mezze style dishes as well as normal menu. Service good. Food lovely. Steak was tender and cooked as asked. Bar a bit slow at peak times.
