I am an avid user of MAC Full Coverage for the past 9 years or so now. I always go to Fouberts Place to get my foundation once it finishes or I order online. Up to a year or so ago the foundation cost me 20 quid now it's gone up and has VAT added to it. Cool! I got to the store on Sunday at 5 mins to noon and was left standing in the light rain because they don't open before 12. Cool. There is no sign on the store front indicating that the store opens at noon on any day and in particularly on a Sunday.

The staff did not fully represent the many ethnicities of the UK. There were no black or Asian women/men working there, so how can these people fully understand my needs as a black woman? The sales girls were badly trained in customer service as was indicative of their attitudes which bordered on ignoring u or overly friendly psychotic behavior.

The sales girl kept referring to my shade when I asked for it as we don't really have that really dark shade. I am cafe au lait. I was utterly offended. She was clueless. I called a week before to ask about the shade and was told we have it just come in. That was obviously not true, especially as they insisted that they got in products every Thursday. So umm why are u not ordering for the black or asian community then?

I prefer buying my MAC online from the US where I never would have had to endure this problem. They need customer service training and more diverse display in their workforce.

I am going to write to the MAC company and to the Consumer Rights and make a noted comment to anyone else that deals with fair recruitment in any industry that demonstrates variance in ethnic makeup and people with special needs.

MAC UK needs to do better.

It's pretty well known that there are specific sunday trading hours in place here in the UK... most shops open at 12 on a Sunday, and many stores that are open before that are open for browsing only. Smaller shops, particularly around central london do not advertise their trading hours. I'm not saying that is right or wrong but it's not the fault of the Mac store. It's just something that happens a lot (I work in retail so I know). Also, I am Asian and I have never had a problem in this mac store, or the ones in covent garden or westfield. I don't personally feel there has to be an Asian person working their to understand me. That seems a tad wrong in my opinion, the white sales associates I've dealt with seem to know enough and have helped me very well. It's possibly more to do with their ability rather than their ethnic background. I was served by a lovely black lady in the westfield store just so you know.

Hi! I have to say I love this store as all the makeup artists are fully qualified and to the highest standards of makeup artistry. I'm a regular customer their and know that black and Asian staff work their. The staff are far from clueless. As a dermatologist I know that not all black women have the same type of skin, that would be rediculouse to assume and slightly offensive, also the staff are professional makeup artists and therefore probably know our own skin type better than us weather were black, White or Asian!! I think you just had a bad experience and should give them another go! Black or White!

I do know that the origional post was added several years ago but upon reading the only thing i could think about was why do you believe that only a person of the same ethnicity would know more or less about makeup for a skin type than anyone elce. London as a whole is so diverse that in any area of the beauty industry you need to know about all skin types, undertones and conditions. Im sorry you felt like you had a bad time at this particular mac but i’ve been to many over our country including this one and have never had anything less than top notch service even when i have come stright in from traning covered in oil or gross fake tan no make up hair scooped back and never been treated any different. TBH this is one of the best macs with lovly staff that are all very intellegent and have given me loads of help when i am buying products for all sorts of clients.

I’ve been in there a couple of times and prefer it to the MAC concessions in the main department stores. The staff here are more helpful. You can get the long queues, because the staff aren’t just selling a product they’re giving you make-up tips you can use with any other brand. Last time I was in, I learnt how to get a different look (day and evening) using the same brush and eye shadow (easy for some, but a major achievement for me!). The lady took her time to show me what to do. I also like the fact that they truly cater for the whole spectrum of skin tones/shades.

i didn’t know we had a mac on carnaby area… what a surprise!.. everything here is god sent.. just my only complain.. there’s such a long queue to be served :(.... i didn’t know about their eco-swap plan.. i will definitely be saving those empty containers… the artist that helped me told me that the store was just recently revamped and redecorated… i love .. love.. love.. their lipsticks… it is not everyday you find shades that compliment your complexion… but mac always hit the spot right on.

M.A.C. are widely known to be masters of colour - and not for nothing.

You wanna canary yellow eyeshadow? You got it. Bardot-pink matt lips? Coming right up. Foundation to make you flawless (well, your face)? M.A.C. have got it down.

Add to that a stellar range of everything else under the sun (gift sets, nail lacquer, brushes, skincare, perfume) and you’ve not only got a brand to covet but a shop to linger in - fun fun fun ‘til your hands resemble a Jackson Pollock painting. And when you’re ready to get serious ask the smart black-clad staff anything - they know their M.A.C. and will soon have you looking like perfection.

M.A.C. also run a great scheme whereby you can return empty containers and swap them for a stamp - ten stamps equal a free lippy! Now that’s what I call being an eco-warrior.
