The village of Avanos is famous for its pottery. Thus the Sofra, like many restaurants in the area, specialises in cooking things in clay pots. If you go here you must have the testi kebap (not what it sounds like): a meat and vegetable stew cooked in a sealed clay pot that’s broken open at the table and served to you.
This place has a got a good menu with salads, meats, breads, and lots of sides of olives, etc. It’s located near the centre of the village and has tables outside on the pavement in the summer.
