Yes its dated, a little bit grotty as you go down into the changing area but the kids dont notice any of this and there all smiling. Round the pool areas is clean enougth.
We had a fab time, son was a bit apprehensive at first but started him on the little slides, and slowly built up his confidence to go on the dragon slide, which i was supprised they let him go on being so small but made up they did because he absolutly loved it!
It hasnt changed much since i was a kid, but they have added a few new slides and a new kids bit. All the old slides are still there.
Ok its not a 5 star day out, but we had a good 3.5 hours in there of fun and he would of quite happily stayed all day. I am giving this 5 stars because i think all the 1 star reviews are unfair and the average should be higher. It is what it is and its in rhyl so dont be expecting disney land florida quality from it, but there is fun to be had here. Plus, where else is there to go like this round here? Yes the sand castle in blackpool is much better but i wouldnt drive all the way there just to go to it.

I have been using the Sun Centre for 25 years, with my children and now my grandchildren. Yes it is old, but nothing near as bad as I have read here. I paid £8.95 each, not as cheap as my local pool but far more fun for the children - they would not go to my local pool at all! I did question why I had to pay when I was only spectating (I always used to swim, but now I like to read) they did explain why, but also told me they are installing a spectator area for 2013.
I took the grandchildren to Alton Towers last Month, I had 50% off tickets and still paid £15 to get in, I spent HOURS queuing, and paid WAY more for food (which was like cardboard - I found the Sun Centre food to be ok) So I do not think it poor value as we were there for over four hrs and paid for nothing more than the food.
I was impressed with the lifeguards, there seemed to be a lot of them (which is good) and I saw one rescue a child - the parent was only about 10ft away and the lifeguard had him before the parent noticed anything was wrong and the child, thankfully, was fine - that is good service and safety.
In answer to those who said there were plasters on the floor, do you think the staff put them there? I saw cleaners working all day - my table was cleared of the childrens food by staff with a smile, if the place was untidy I would look to the customers - the same ones who use the foul language on here.
my answer to those complaining and winging on here is did they look at the faces of the children in there? ALL SMILES, they probably did not look as they only want to find fault. weill if this type of person is not going to the Sun Centre anymore, GOOD! there will be less of the mess they have complained about.

Vistited on 11th April 2012 with my husband, daughter and 5 children, Heating was not working fully and mono rail was not working at all. Food is very very over priced and rubbish. We waited nearly 40 mins to get served and not because of an excessively long queue just lack of staff. They had run out of burger buns, had no tomatoe sauce or napkins and the burger didn;t contain salad. The pools and slides were very good on the whole but many areas were very slippy. The changing areas were very sparse and the toilets in need of cleaning, also none of the hairdryers were working. The suncentre needed a good update ten years ago and sadly is still waiting for it

I wient the suncentre on 10 April 1012 with my two children 11 and 12. I was literally like ice because the heating wasn,t working properly and had a notice on the door (cooler the normal), It was freezing and that was without being in the water. The monorail wasn,t working, that wasn,t relevant but you are paying for that in the price. It shouldn,t have been open. The toilets were dirty and smelt. I don,t see much point in the surfing because the waves are hardly big enough to push you on the board, they used to. I think it could do with a refurb. All in all my kids did enjoy it even though they were really cold. One thing I will say is that I slipped and bumped my head and the first aider was great and sat with me for ages and when my daughter cut her arm. Good work first aiders.

I was a visiter at rhyl sun centre on the 26/8/11 the hodnett family are lucky to have their son with them here today because i saw everything that went on with the inciedent and i am fully qualified in first aid and even i could see that the young boy was not breathing when he was pulled from the water the life gaurd had to revive him. And as for the wave machine i was in the water when i noticed the young boy being pulled from under the surface and at that precice time the wave machine was activated because i could feel the water moving with the motion of the sea my personal opinion is to get the wave machine power turned down or have it removed because it could have been anyones child next time they might not be as lucky as the hodnett family my best wishes to the little boy i hope he is ok and gets well soon

i was a visiter at rhyl sun centre on the 26/8/11 i saw the family and they were watching all of their children, they never took one eye off any one child. And the wave machine WAS on every time the sprinkler system was activated it started the waves and if some one could beleive that a 6 year old boy could lie about being taken by the waves then that is your choice the family knows what went on AND a child younger than 9 months old was near the deep end with no arm bands and people can say that this family was not looking after their children GET A GRIP

Went Sunday 14th August 2011, dirty generally, smelly (toilets / wee) and very unclean, me and my sun had stomach pains, sickness and diorrhea the next day. Took us two days to recover. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Have reported this dump to environmental health in Conwy Council. The place needs a refurb.
Do yourself a favour and go to the best place, Blackpool Sandcastle, went a few months ago and is A1.

I was coming back from a few days in Bakewell, Derbyshire to Rhyl and i was really looking forward to a great day in the Rhyl sun centre, but really it was a complete dump. The water smelled like sick and was full of plasters, the floor was all mouldy and dirty and you where walking round bare footed so that made it worse. And there is a children’s slide in the main swimming pool ( a little one) shaped like an octopus and one of the children could easy go down it and smack a little kid playing by the slides head. The changing rooms where smelly and grubby there was only about nine changing lockers in the changing rooms and there was about 30 people in the changing room. The food service was really bad. My step mum was at the front of the queue and she didn’t get served till half an hour later, the food was OK ish, just crappy pizza and panni’s on a plastic plate with a plastic knife and fork.
This is the most badly run and filthy water park i have ever been to and i don’t recommend this to anyone. Just three words really, DON’T GO THERE!!!

Oh my god that is tragic!! That place needs to clean its act up!
If you like the smell of sick / sewage then this is the place for you.
If you like to walk bare foot into the toiets to find yourself waliking in piss then this is the place for you.
If you like the sensation of vomiting for days then this is the place for you.
If you don’t like your kids send them here.
This place is a health risk.
Stay away!
You may enjoy yourself, and let a few things slide while your there. BUT your day after will not be as fun.

I would not recommend anyone to this place due to health and safety reasons. The changing rooms are filthy and smells of vomit. The toilet facility were absolutely dirty. People are walking bare footed on areas where people are walking with shoes on!! so therefore carrying bacteria etc into the pool. Both my child and niece had abdominal cramps within 48hrs of been here followed by severe vomitting and diahorrea.
I would advise anyone thinking of going here to keep clear until they change their setup!

This was my 1st visit to the sun centre with my kids who are aged 6 and 3 and to be honest it wasnt as pleasant as we expected! The changing rooms dont seem very clean and most of the locks on the doors are broken.Walking through to the pool all we could smell were the not so clean toilets and the floors were filthy. I am not a “fussy mum”,but i thought that for the price we paid to get in it was not value for money by any means!

Being a Drama teacher I always have to look at health and safety and this venue made me a little scared. 6 slides in the middle of the larger pool pool where young children come off the slide into the air at a good speed and can easily whack into another child who is swimming along. As a parent you feel like you need eyes in the back of your head. Even my husband said it wasn't safe and he normally moans at how anal I am about health and safety issues.
Also as a mother to a 11month child I was shocked that they had no family changing or areas for a mum or dad to place a young child in while the adult was trying to get changed. I have never had this experience in any other pool in England.

Sorry not being rude I mean in the UK- I often forget where England ends and Wales begins being so near to the border.

I agree! I found it impossible to watch 2 kids (aged 6 and 3) at the same time because of the dangers of flying children on slides!
Great day out for the kids. Plenty of parking right next to the Sun Centre. There is a main pool with a wave machine and some small kids slides. There is a small kids pool next to it and further on a wave pool where you get a surf board to ride the waves! There is also a Mono-rail thats runs above. There are places to eat there also including a great ice-cream counter!

Ive been coming here everyyear since I was a kid,it was one of the first of its kind when it first opened, and its still an excellent place to come ,no matter what the weather is like, its always as hot as a summers day here, the wave machines are realistic, and there are plenty of activities to do,you can also go in a cable car which takes you around he top of the center.there is so much to do hear, and such a nice enviroment,we usually spend a full day here, the prices arnt bad,and the place is clean and the staff friendly, the also have a good gift shop

Recently this swimming venue that is located along Rhyl promanade has had alot money spent on it, but if i am honest it doesn’t look like it has. Ok it has had a new slide that goes out of the building and back in but it still looks very dated. It even costs to park
2 stars
