Ho Chi Mi...
The location is fab as the hotel is in the heart of London so you can go for a tranquil walk down Park Lane and see the sights......
The Dorchester Grill on the ground floor was slightly marred, in my view, by a revamp a l’Americain a year or so back, tartan and so on, but remains first class. The quality of attention is very good. I had venison with game chips and doubt it could be done better. The wine waiter also knew his stuff, which is just as well as the wine list is substantial. My father a few decades back used to swear by the shepherd’s pie or steak and kidney pie he had (when not having business breakfasts), but I suspect it was because his expense account might not have worn a full blown meal; but I don’t doubt that the shepherd’s pie or steak and kidney piewould have been good. The waiters are also good with the old party trick of changing the table cloth between courses with one hardly noticing (it is NOT done with a sudden tug).
There is a banqueting suite upstairs that had a myriad collection of tiny bulbs set in a deep blue ceiling. Exquisite. I might say the 4-course banquet I attended there was as good a meal as you could ever get. Thankfully, I was a guest.
If you do leave a coat in the cloakroom, tip the attendant – I suspect her income is less than that of most customers. The top-hatted doorman probably does OK on tips as it is, but if you have money to burn, feel free to tip him too. He’ll open your taxi door so much more nicely.
