I completely agree. I went this evening. The ‘bouncer’ at the door told me we had one and a half hours to eat!!! If I had not promised my two boys a treat I would have left, however, I continued even though I was in no mood to give the restaurant my custom. Once inside, I was even more disgusted by the general service four cokes cost £9.20!!!! Rip off or what. Food mediocre. I Shall not be returning and would definitely not recommend this so called restaurant to anyone unless you wish to rent a table for an hour and a half.

If you ignore the stairwell that you have to use to access the place (shared with a gym – very dirty, smelly and drab) then I’d recommend giving it a go. Can never get through on phone to book so have booked in person but staff are pretty friendly. Huge array of food – a lot is fried but plenty to choose from. Reasonable value when taking family out for a nosh!

I've been to Cosmos a couple of times and have been shocked by the rudeness of the staff. They have a "bouncer" on the door who growls at you to stand in the queue and the waiters aggressively tell you that you have 10 mins left after 1 hr 15 mins.
Food is good hence the 1 star but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to people because it has an awful atmosphere.

Kimpam, 18 August 2011:
a great find. we went at lunchtime so £7.99 not as much choice as the evening menu ie no sushi, dimsum etc but at least 100 dishes. thai, indian and chinese. very tasty cuisine, and then a dessert station. ice cream, fruit or cakes. apprently later there is lots more choice meals and desserts aswell as a chocolate fountain. They way i see it would i spend £4.99 on a macdonalds or £7.99 for a 3 course eat as much as u like.???? its not brain science
highly recommended and the decor at the front makes it looks very nice
in the evening they also have pizza and roasts aswell as sushi, dimsum

A wonderful place to eat I was surprised at the quality, amount and high standards they have to offer, friendly welcoming staff who guarantee a good experience. Organise parties or a place to spoil. Loved one, family, friends an relationships. Clean environment and appreciate advice and comments. I am a picky eater and they accommodated me well in reassuring me hat is in the food and how it is prepared. I was very impressed with the variety and in asking they would do specific foods according to your eating needs (prior notice is required thou). Best arrange a visit and you will see for yourself worth the money you pay, well worth it, if I could go daily I would. Thanks Cosmo!!!!!!

This place is truly awful, the food was nice, I found the atmosphere great however after 40 minutes of eating quite contently with my family, a waiter came up to me to remind me that I had 20 minutes left. This really left a sour taste in my mouth to say the least, I found myself rushing my food and feeling very uncomfortable, with the constant glares of the very intimidating and quite rude Chinese staff. If they had some education in hospitality, the restaurant would do so well however it felt very much 'conveyor-belt' style eating. I did joke with my family that even in Nando's they give you enough time to eat and digest your food. I would not go back because the food quality was mediocre but service was absolutely horrendous. Definitely not worth £13.99 of my money.

Cosmo Croydon opened in November 2010 and has been a hit ever since. No other restaurant in Croydon has created such a stir in recent memory. It is very well liked and is always bustling with customers. It is excellent for variety (Japanese, Chinese, Thai, European.......) and quality of food. Also for speed of service, for efficient clearing of tables in between courses and especially for the fixed cost per head. In the evenings Chefs are on hand to cook extra things to order. There are 2 chocolate fountains and a very large variety of desserts. Drinks can be bought at 2 bars within the place. What more can anyone ask for?? I have been back several times and intend to go several more...... If you persevere and call ahead to book and are flexible with what time you eat, you can usually be accommodated. It is better to book by phone than by e-mail, so use BT's ring back feature, if their phone is always engaged because they are so popular.

'Don't believe the Hype!!'
I've heard so much about this resturant like its the best ever with so much variety of food i'll be spoilt for choice. Too be honest I wasn't really impressed with the food or the layout. Buffet style is not for me even thought the place looks nice & clean, the place is wayy to big.
Wouldn't eat there again if I was invited.

Cosmo is not easy to find, You can miss the flag signs flapping on poles.
The stairs will make you out of breath, There is a lot of them.
The staff do not smile much when you give them your payment ticket you enter the restaurant.
The food is nice and there is lots to choose from and the chocolate fountain is lovely and the restaurant is very clean with modern decor.
The staff need to be more professional and work on their customer service skills. I will go back there again because the food is good.

I have booked a reservation for the 40th birthday of my boyfriend at least 12 days in advance thru online, no one from cosmo even called me back or reply to my email if the reservation has been accepted or if there's any problem but after 3 days an email sent back to me from Cosmo saying they are fully booked. I call them back to confirm about the email and they say I should have done the reservation over the phone and the person over the phone ask me what's in the email and when I say it's fully booked she then told me it's fully booked. they don't have the decency to call you or email their customer within a reasonable time if they are fully booked or not. I hope they just removed their online reservation because this is just useless for customer doing the reservation online. They are not professional!

you are right rcaballero, i booked for my birthday last year and it was £5 per person and i booked for 20 guests. the table could only fit 15 of my guests. when i asked if they deducted the £5 deposits the cashier did not know anything about it. They are very very unprofessional and like to rush you out. The food is nice.

Despite the big queues, Cosmo was very well organised especially as we had booked in advanced. Three of our group are vegetarian, and there relly should be a veggie discount, as there was a very limited choice for us, and labelling was very poor, so we couldn't see what was safe for us to eat. Mostly vegetables, some tofu and a couple of curries.
More visible labelling, including if Oyster sauce is used, and MORE CHOICE please. Days in Brighton has better choice and labels.

I have heard nothing but 'COSMO' around the office since it opened a few weeks ago! I went in to see what all the fuss was about and am now COSMO's biggest fan! I am a big food fan so visiting COSMO was like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. I felt sublimely lost amongst the fresh Asian aromas :) !! It was really fantastic, other than me getting so full I could barely make it back up to the food stations! I'll be back - sooner than later hopefully!
