Compliment
Bell (16-06-2008)
Built on a short, rocky hill on the Buda side of the Danube, the Budapest castle complex dominates the city. Even now this castle complex is very expansive, although it had its heyday in the 15th Century and much of the existing buildings are rebuilt versions of earlier grandeur since many of the buildings were destroyed during the Turkish occupation.
The castle complex now consists of a variety of uses. The old Palace now houses several museums and galleries as well as the central library. The President’s official residence can be found within the complex and the area is used for formal functions. The old village around the castle has been maintained and houses a number of authentic tourist shops and café’s. A multitude of churches can be found within the walls, especially overlooking Fisherman’s Bastion and the view to the Pest side of the river.
