‘REEF’ This has to be the best thing to happen in Grove Park since Christians was here years ago. Many restaurants have come and gone from the spot, but this one looks as if they have got the mixture right and is here to stay. I have been a number of times now (book at peak times, but they will try to squeeze you in anyhow) and on all the occasions, I have never been disappointed with the great fresh food accompanied by warm, friendly service, and staff who remember your name. (Service is strained, at busy times, but laid back, hence worth the wait, but if required the kitchen staff come out to serve and they keep you informed) It’s the brain child I believe of two good lookin identical twin brothers, who are the chefs, and it’s a ‘fish & Chippy’ with a difference. Not since The light house in Aldeborough have I tasted such perfectly cooked fish and chips on plates not designed for large slabs of cod. The atmosphere is an eclectic cross of Le Cage Aux Folles meets The Adventures of Pricilla, Queen of the dessert, (except the only thing missing is a large red shoe on top of the place. If you have seen the movie you will know what I mean, otherwise get the DVD or just book a table) with a mixture of fun furniture and lighting, enough to cheer up anyone on a mizzy day. There are tables outside, in a delightful courtyard garden to the rear and front, and yes dogs are allowed. (Outside only), there was even a lady with a huge parrot on her shoulder last time I went! Good old fashioned starters like Prawn cocktail, and chilli squid and a great sensible selection of mains to cater for all tastes including veggies, meat lovers and fish friends. 5 or 6 desserts all made on the premises (pecan pie yummy!). The wine list offers a bold selection of honest wines at reasonable prices; it’s one of the few places where they actually serve a decent house white or red by the glass. Hallelujah thank god they have arrived, as it’s only a short crawl home. Try it, you won’t be disappointed, if you are there’s gotta be something wrong with you… Enjoy, and see you there. Miss Mollie the dog loves it too.
