Avoca is the name of town in Wicklow, which is where this family-owned company hails from. It's a business that's been around since the 1700's and is home to quality Irish knitwear - perfect to send to family abroad to remind them of their heritage's traditional fabrics; scarves, sweaters, mittens, as well as everything from beautiful handcrafted soaps to cuisine recipes (from their many cookbooks). Girly, pretty, delicate designs with a vintage theme. It reminds me of an Irish version of Urban Outfitters; with the original gift ides, the overall look of the store from the plain setting but funky decorations, including a chandelier (which I love). A fabulous find - so save up a day and shop away.

While there's very little in Avoca you need, there's a million things you want. It's a cute shop that almost always has something you desire and a great selection of unique gifts. The clothes are nice as well though a little pricey. And several items in the shop are Irish-made.

The real find though is the cafe. Avoca has delicious fresh meals and treats. Make sure you pick up a cookbook as well to try out some of the recipes at home.

A more interesting shop for a browse. One can spend quite a while looking at things in there. Books, food, clothes, household items and all sorts of things that is just interesting or lovely in some way. An ideal 'pressie’ shop. The clothes lines available at Avoca are top notch classic contempory designs, often particularly special with regard to outlandish, but beautiful designs and textiles. Avoca sells a life style thats dreamy and pretty. A brilliant solution for retail therapy in conjunction with a quick coffee or a tasty salad munch of one of Avoca’s own recipes.

Avoca make it their mission to spread joy and their store in Suffolk street makes a great start. The five stories makes it quite overwhelming so know where to look. Climb to the top floor for substantial meals but simply nip to the basement for coffee and a browse round the food hall. Every single floor is packed full of beautiful bits and pieces, many at quite reasonable prices. This is a place to go to lose yourself.

Review of Avoca from 20 August 2008

Avoca is pure Irish, it sounds easy enough, but really there aren’t enough competitive quality Irish products else ware to take on this amazing store.
They have developed their own line, Anthology, which is beautifully constructed from woolen and woven materials, full of flowery designs that are more classic than down right country. Their home wears have quickly become the most desirable, and their selection of home decorations not to be sniffed at. The children’s clothing line is simple and made with quality, the kind that become heirlooms.
All that said the other draw card is in their fine foods. Amazing fresh produce available on the lower floor in the delicatessen, and served on the top floor in their restaurant, decorated like a white washed country style home.
For the true quality of Ireland, this five floor mecca is a must!
