yes the salon could do with a make over but I have to say don't let that or other reviews put you off. I have been going to get my hair highlighted for many years now and have probably been in most of the salons in cardiff so I feel I can give a fair review. The conversation with my stylist was exactly the same as ever other salons but I am in a hairdressers so all I want is a good cut and colour which is exactly what I got. The highlights were excellent and the stylist listened to what I asked for and unlike other salons I have visited she didn't try and get me to have a cut or colour she liked. Will definatly be recommending to my friends and family.

Bad experience at this salon. Place is dirty and the decor is shabby. There was somebody else's hair around my feet. I was offered a drink and was given half a cup of awful coffee. The stylist was juat about competant but asked me if I was going on holiday, then asked me the same question later. At one point the son of a member of staff came in and started kicking his school bag up and down the salon. I purchased a groupon for highlights, treatment, cut and finish. Whilst sitting there waiting for my colour to take the stylist pointed out to me the fine print on the groupon that I was expeced to pay an extra 50% on top of what I had already paid as I had long hair. If they had mentioned this at first it would have gone down better believe me. Also I'm not convinced that the conditioning treatment was anything but regular conditioner left on for five minutes. This is the first time I have ever left a salon without tipping the stylist or felt the need to write a bad review and I will never set foot in there again.

Just wanted to write a quick review to say what an amazing time myself anf my “bridesmaid” received.. We had bucks fizz on arrival, then a lovely wedding balloon, the staff were fantastic, and the hair…. toatall over wheming.. I will thorouhly recommend Aquarius to anyone and everyone. From the start of my trial, to my nails, eyelashes just made the start to my wedding day the best I could wish for. Thankyou to jacquie and all the staff and the lovely Naiomi from the beauty area xxxxx

What a surprise about betsy!! I have been going to the salon for a few years and never have ever had any complaints… Sorry but this woman came in when I was there!! The stylist had not even finished the cut!! There’s no shop
Next door to buy drinks it’s a floor shop!!! Secondly, the way she performed was an embarrassment to her and her children! The staff always offer drinks and have won many awards… Maybe she got out of bed the wrong way. She was down right rude and after she went I knew she was going to write a review that’s why I have waited the stylist did nothing wrong, salon was and always is clean maybe hair on the floor but!!!!! It’s a hairdresser.. If the girl who’s Shes clearly pointing the finger at decides to take things further I am there to support as a witness…. Don’t let people like this let you down Aquarius,,, see you next week xxxxxx

Well I read the reviews and still took my children there and wished I hadn’t! I had booked both in for wash cut and blowdry.
My son was 1st, he’s 11, showed the stylist a photo on the iPad of how my son wanted his hair, I then went to the shop next door to buy soft drinks, as none were offered.
On returning my son was having a dry cut, bone dry with no water spray, he has thick hair and the sullen stylist was cutting the back with a scissors, before long it was obvious that chunks of hair had been taken out at the back and sides, she didn’t seem to know what she was doing and my sons hair at the sides was now down to about 2mm.
I halted the cut, something I have never done, a senior stylist apologised and tried to rectify matters, but my sons hair is an absolute mess, you can still see where it has been cut unevenly and it has no shape.
May I add that, I had previously used this salon, and that I was not using groupon and willing to pay for a good haircut. I will never go there again and cannot believe they used such an incapable sullen individual, who could never be called a hairdresser to cut my boys hair.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, and yes it is now very dirty!

i visited aquarius today with a groupon deal i was a little bit worried to be honest as reading some of the reviews made me very concered i must say some of the reviews have suprised me
i walked in at my appointment time and there was a girl at reception who greeted me straight away offering me tea or coffee and took my jacket. i was soon seen to by my stylist who sat me down and spoke to me about my hair she was very poliet and cheerful which eased my nearves..
she brought out a colour chart and talked me through my options and started straight away offering me magazines and more drinks.
throughout my service i had a few different people checking that i was ok and had all i needed which was great as the salon was busy at the time
overall i was pleased with my hair and have rebooked for 6 weeks time.
thought i should post as i think alot of people would feel the way i did prior to visiting but trust me its not as bad as its made out to be

Visited the salon with a Groupon Voucher. Polite staff, but the salon leaves a lot to be desired – shabby, and the brush used to blowdry my hair had someone else’s hair in it. I was also expecting a Senior Stylist as part of the Groupon deal, but this was not the case – although the young stylist was lovely and very polite and did an okay job.
I didn’t mind too much as I only paid £18.00 for the voucher, but would not think of returning and paying full price at this salon. It’s definitely lacking an overall impression of professionalism.

If there was a choice for giving no stars then that’s what I would have preferred to have given!
Absolutely awful salon – awfully run, awful customer relations, awful hygiene, awful everything, even down to the awful sofa that you are forced to fall back on to wait until you are EVENTUALLY taken to the seat for your cut.
I turned up dead on time and joined a queue of three other ladies waiting to be seen to. The phone was ringing away and the three stylists were seeing to their clients. Eventually, one of the stylists came over to attend to us (phone didn’t stop ringing and nobody attempted to answer it either). I was told that they were busy and could I pop back in about 15mins (after my appt time) as there was no where for me to wait in the salon so I went to sit in my car to wait instead.
When I walked back in, nothing had changed but decided to stand by door and play ‘door man’ until there was room to sit down. Wow! I wish I had stayed on my feet as that sofa has obviously come from one’s own home after seeing better days! It’s like a old black leather beast that swollows you up and takes great effort to try to get back up from it (needs slinging out!).
However, I didn’t go there for testing out the salon’s furniture, it’s a hairdressers not DFS afterall. However, I didn’t realise that I was going to spend a whole hour waiting either. I attracted somebody’s attention and asked them had I been forgotten about and was told that it wouldn’t be much longer. A lady came in whilst I was waiting and said that she had anappintment for nails. The appointment book was checked and was told that there was no booking for her and was told that she couldn’t have made an appointment in the first place. The customer was alittle disgruntled and explained that she hadn’t made a mistake as she had only made the appointment very recently and had written it down in her diary. She was then turned away. Within that same hour I was waiting patiently to be called to my seat, two other customers walked in to make an appointment and waited….and waited…..and waited…until they both eventually turned around and walked back out. Emmmm, perhaps the Manager should employ a receptionist!?
As far as the cut and colour I received is concerned (afterall that’s what counts at the end of the day I suppose), well it was ok (just ok, nothing better than that). It took the sylist hours to complete (I realise that the colour had to stay on my hair for a length of time but in the end I was getting abit worried – at one time all the staff disappeared out to the back room for a while leaving all of us (the customers) giving small side line glances at each other until we all burst out laughing and passed comments to one another about the salon in general.
Before my hair was brushed, the stylist opened up her ‘suitcase’ of different brushes etc and from a glance I could see that every brush was absolutely full of previous customers hair, and I mean full of it! (yuk!) I was too embarressed to say anything to her even though I wanted to say ‘you are not coming anywhere near my head with those dirty combes and brushes!’. I just didn’t look up into the mirror as she used it on my hair. I just sat there and thought that even though my hair had been washed before the cut, it was definately having another wash as soon as I got home and how I’m so fussy with the cleanliness of my own brushed at home.
It was the first time I have ever stepped foot in this salon and you can guess that it’s my last too. I made a huge mistake buying a Groupon voucher for this place. What a waste of my hard earned money (voucher + £25 on top for foils).
After a few days of reflecting on how bad the whole experience was, I rung the salon and spoke to the owner of the salon (Jackie). I explained everything to her, how I was an whole hour late being called to my seat after firstly having to sit in my car for 15mins because I was asked to call back and how there should clearly be a structure in place for someone to meet and greet the customers and answer the phone calls but she rudely interupted me and said ‘well moving on, what exactly are you ringing for!?’
She left me bewildered, thinking how can somebody run a business with that sort of attitude but then I felt that I had answered my very own question – with somebody like this at the steering wheel then no wonder this salon is run the way it is so subsquently no wonder customers like me are left dis-satisfied and disgruntled and upset and annoyed that they have wasted their money and time at the this particular hair salon.

I would certainly recommend this salon to my friends and family, so friendly and the manager Jackie helps her team and washes clients hair, not seen in many hair salons!
I booked in for a colour cut and blow dry, I was so impressed the girls are so friendly and professional. Really relaxed atmosphere couldn’t do enough for me. Parking is good with an on site car park.
My stylist Jenny was amazing she knew exactly what I wanted and my hair cut and colour is the best I’ve had for many years! THANK YOU JENNY.
This is a genuine review am very pleased, and will definately be going back to Aquarius in Rhiwbina.

I agree with the majority of the comments. The salon is shabby and most of the staff seem more concerned about ringing the business through than actually providing any quality of service or customer care. I paid a significant amount of money to have hair extensions in August after having my appointment cancelled due to sickness of the stylist originally booked to do it. The hair was put in well with all of the bonds remaining intact after two weeks. The hair itself however was a different story. After the first wash it was split, broken and falling out at the ends. This was despite numerous expensive quality hair treatments on it. The hair was breaking off in clumps and clogging up the hairbrush. The hair that was left, looked like scraggy rats tails. After contacting the lady who placed them in she readily agreed to see me at the salon.
Once there, she had to put more hair in but also cut off several inches as it was so bad on the ends.This lady was freelance and covering for the other stylist. At no point did any of the staff at Aquarius acknowledge me, speak to me or show any concern or professional responsibility for what was clearly cheap, rubbish and poor quality hair they had used on me.
The salon is shabby and the level of customer service is non existent. An all round expensive disappointment.

Recently visited this salon for a cut and colour, I had been sometime ago but due to using a Groupon thought i’d try it again. The Salon has been transformed since my last visit, the salon itself is lovely, very tastefully decorated, modern and new. The staff were attentive and unlike other reviews I had no problem with being kept waiting even though the salon itself was busy, which I always think is a good sign!
My stylist listened to my requests and I am very pleased with the outcome, I took in a photo and the cut is identical and the colour just right.
I will be returning to this salon and I also intend to book in for beauty treatments the salon has to offer.

visted this salon for a mani and pedicure absolutely shocking shelac applied to nails which has already peeled off after 24 hours total rubbish given that it is meant to last 2-3 weeks! No nail care prior to application either minx nails slapped on no pedicure!!!!! Groupon or not this salon is totally shocking and dirty to boot should be closed and cleaned and then reopened with a manager how thouroughly dissapointing ’!!!!!!!!,

I felt like I need to review this place to make up for all the bad ones over the Internet. I had an offer off groupon for a half a head of highlights a cut and finish. Although I was absolutely bricking the appointment from reading some reviews I was pleasently surprised. My hair brush had no-one elses hair in, the staff were friendly, the salon wasn't cold, and the colour is great as is the cut! The reason I'm only given it 3 stars is because my colour was left on for an additional 20 mins, but it didn't make a difference at all. Once you've visited you get a further 20% off all cut/colour if you go again. If something else for Aquarius comes up on groupon, I'd definately return.

Well below expectations
WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!
My sister and I arrived at the salon with our groupon voucher nobody came to us till 20 minutes later, it was very cold . One and a half hour later they asked if I would like a coffee, phone didn't stop, no receptionist, it was very cold and not very relaxing at all. The draws where the brushes and hairdryers are kept were full of old hair!! One of the stylists left the room and started combing a dirty brush to clean it then used it on my sisters hair!! After the manager putting colour and foils on my hair she said she will be back in 20min!!! as I only wanted like a warm copper look. one hour and a half later not one person checked my HAIR ~ I mentioned to the other stylist i need someone to take my foils off as my head was burning. 15 min later the manager was answering the phone and taking care of the que of people at the door. My hair by now was white under the foil. Ive never been so nervous and I felt really anxious and sick, they told me we will just put another colour on top to calm it down. aaaargh!!! My hair was brown (and red???) with BLOND bits. The lady sitting next to me was there for three hours and on her way out said good luck?? I left the salon 4 hours later, without an appology, and I just paid the extra £25.00 for foil??? Never will revisit them again!!!

I am disappointed with the hair colour I was applied at the salon.
I did mention it to the hairdresser that cut my hair however I wasn’t able then to judge how bad it was. Only in daylight I realised that I have red coloured patches all over my hair, with the fringe considerably darker than the rest of it.
The colour I chose from the hair chart was medium brown with a tint of ginger/copper and I did stress that I didn’t want any sort of red shade.
i was also told that “it will wash off” doesn’t sound good in regards to the quality of dyes they use.
To be objective in my jugment I want to add that I am pleased with the cut and the staff created very friendly athmosphere.
